Instead of re-gifting that awkwardly thoughtful cactus plant or that endearingly hideous holiday sweater, give a gift that both men and women will actually want and remember for years to
come – tickets to see Hairspray, of course. With the addition of eight more shows, there’s plenty of time to see Tracy and the gang as they dance and sing their way right on into 2015.
Managing Director Rebecca Hopkins speaks to the excitement of extending this big-hearted hit production. “Audiences have embraced Hairspray and are on their feet every night. Not unlike the story of misfit toys, Tracy and the gang celebrate our differences and have a great time doing it.
FST is happy to give Sarasota an early gift by extending the show into the New Year!”
The cast is certainly getting into the holiday spirit. Brooke Shapiro, FST’s own Tracy Turnblad, shares her thoughts about performing in Hairspray during this special time of year. “When you think of the holiday season, you dream about all of the magic this time of year brings. Hairspray is a perfect show to see this time of year. It’s all about making dreams come true. The show is great for all ages. It is funny, charming, filled with lots of smiles and dancing, and it also deals with some serious issues.
I am excited to hear that the show is extending. Having the opportunity to bring more audiences on Tracy’s journey is thrilling.”

About Florida Studio Theatre
Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre, the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret, and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.
Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience. FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world. As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
