(New York, NY)The MuseBox today announced that seminal Canadian punk folk artistEugene Ripper will bring his “Fast Folk Underground” to New York City’s Bowery Electric on Wednesday, June 4, as he kicks off a monthly residency. Ripper, who is considered one of Canada’s most respected and storied modern rock performers, has been refining his energetic post-modern folk musings since the early 1990s. Still on tour in support of 2013’sFast Folk Underground III (Quiet Light) Ripper continues to earn the respect of both fans and critics. The Montreal Gazette describes Ripper’s music as “hard-strummed acoustic folk music with the intensity of punk,” and raves that “Fast Folk Underground III (Quiet Light) shows him at the top of his game.” All of Ripper’s releases are available on his official website, while tickets for Ripper’s return to New York City are available on the Bowery Electric website.
  
Ripper’s status in the Canadian rock scene is legendary. His gritty roots can be traced back to his first band, Stark Naked and the Fleshtones, who built a solid fan base in the 1980s via relentless touring. As the 1990s arrived, Ripper went solo and made a splash on the international scene with the release of his first solo album, 1993’s Fast Folk Underground.
 
Later that year, Ripper returned to the stages of The Mariposa Festival and also joined“The Great Canadian Party” at Thunderbird Stadium in Vancouver, where he shared the main stage with The Tragically Hip, Bare-naked Ladies, and The Violent Femmes. Ripper’s performance at The Mariposa Festival included the intriguing blend of storytelling and high energy that has become his trademark: “His neo-acoustic tales of near death, trains, outlaws, love gone bad, and freedom merge with an acute case of intense live energy. While living in New York City in the late 1990s, Ripper wrote and recorded his second album, Faster Than You Think, with Television’s drummer, Billy Ficca. While living in New York City, he was an active member of the East Village anti-folk scene. A highlight of this era was his third engagement at the Mariposa Folk Festival in Toronto in 1995. Ripper led the way on a stage that featured the cream of The New York City anti-folk scene.  A move back to Canada (for family and kin) galvanized Ripper’s focus on that scene as he continued to produce albums and tour in support of the work showcasing his wide range of sonic expertise: “Volleying between punk, folk and rock Ripper jumps all over each style, stealing from one and reshaping another until he comes up with a unique sound and vibe all his own.” (Now Magazine)
