DNCE fans were able to have their cake and eat it too. On June 1st, DNCE gave a live performance at the Empire State Building and sang their hit songs” Cake by the Ocean” and “Toothbrush” to a cheering crowd. The brief and intimate concert was performed for a select audience of winners from Z100 New York as a prelude to the evening concert at Barclay’s Center in the same evening.
The DJ from Z100 interviewed the band members on stage asking them questions about their favorite food, who was the sloppiest, and how the group got its name. Joe Jonas said he couldn’t remember but thought DNCE was the result of a misspelling. Realizing that most url’s are already taken, they decided to keep the name and the rest is history.
Formed in the summer of 2015, DNCE first introduced themselves to audiences worldwide with the unexpected release of their debut single “Cake By The Ocean,” their now certified double-platinum breakout smash which has made them one of 2016’s most buzzworthy acts. It was released in September 2015 and included in their 4-track SWAAU (Republic Records). “Cake by the Ocean” made the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was a hit across multiple formats and reached #1 at HAC, Top 10 at AC, and Top 5 on the Top 40 radio airplay chart. It reached Top 10 on iTunes in over 10 countries and generated more than 200 million streams on Spotify. Their newest single, “Toothbrush” has made the Top 40 radio stations like New York’s Z100 and Los Angeles’ KISSFM.
The music video for the song stars supermodel Ashley Graham and received critical praise from media outlets such as Entertainment Weekly, In Style, People, and Rolling Stone. Joe Jonas assembled the group in the summer of 2015 and all-star bandmates include: bassist & keyboardist Cole Whittle, South Korean bred guitarist JinJoo, who toured with the Jonas Brothers, Charli XCX and Ceel o Green and drummer Jack Lawless. The band is presently on tour through the summer to promote their debut EP, SWAAY with singer and actress Selena Gomez.
