DRAGONS, VECTREN AND AT&T PRESENT 2015 “COMMUNITY ALL-STAR”

Shirley Dearing to be honored at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, July 9

Dayton, Ohio – The Dragons, Vectren, and AT&T will honor Shirley Dearing during the unique “Community All-Stars” program on Thursday, July 9, at 7 p.m. when the Dayton Dragons take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field.

The Dayton community is a great place to live, work and play. But what makes Dayton truly great are the people that call Dayton home. We have great people and great organizations in our community that do incredible things each and every day. Throughout the season, the Dragons, Vectren, and AT&T will honor five “All-Stars” with a special inning break tribute in recognition of their service.

Shirley’s Story

A retired teacher from Arcanum, Shirley Dearing has always held a special place in her heart for children. After retiring, Shirley felt something in her life was missing. She decided to do something about it and found a fellow teacher in need of help. Lori Flora works with children living with significant disabilities such as autism and Down’s Syndrome. Lori needs help on a daily basis and Shirley quickly stepped in.

Every day for the last four years, Shirley has driven an hour each way to volunteer with the students. When thanked for her service, she is quick to respond “No, it is a blessing to be allowed to be here with these children.”

When she is not busy in the classroom, Shirley is volunteering at her church’s food pantry, something she has been doing for years now. Through her church, she has also gone on countless missions trips to other countries, helping rescue girls from human trafficking, building homes for those without and generally showing love to anyone she encounters.

For always putting others before herself, the Dragons, Vectren and AT&T will be honoring Shirley as a Dragons Community All-Star at the game on July 9.
