DOOMTREE UNVEILS POP QUIZ, HOT SHOT —
AN AWESOME AND RIDICULOUS ONLINE TRIVIA GAME

TOUR STARTS THIS MONTH

“…Once again [Doomtree have] emerged with a brace of densely impressionistic, explosive jams
laced with rock-inflected electronics and besotted with virtuoso verbiage.” – Wondering Sound

Minneapolis hip-hop collective Doomtree has earned a reputation as a genre-bending indie powerhouse. Members spent 2015 touring their most recent album, All Hands, across more than a dozen countries, with appearances at SXSW, Glastonbury, and all three Riot Fests. Now they’ve collaborated with  Clockwork to create Pop Quiz, Hot Shotan online trivia game that allows fans to delve deep into the lyrics an connect with the crew in a whole new way.

Equal parts Rap Genius and Trivial Pursuit, the game tests players’ knowledge of the pop culture references on All Hands, which name checks everyone from Kobe Bryant to Venus di Milo. The game officially starts on 9/15 at 12pm Central — study up for the pop quiz here. Every day will feature a clue that leads players to a particular reference, which they’ll have to discover somewhere in the album lyrics. Along the way, players will get hints from Minneapolis institutions like The CurrentGlam Doll Donuts, and Trivia Mafia, as well as individual Doomtree members themselves. The game is designed for both die-hard fans and recent converts. So even if you don’t have a lyric tattoo, it’s fun–and funny as hell.  It’s full of little interactive videos of the group acting out clues, hanging out backstage, and dunking on 4-foot hoops in Beak’s backyard. You get applauded by the crew when you get an answer right. You get berated by their toddlers when you fail. Play the game here, starting on 9/15 at 12pm Central.
You also get a shot at some genuinely incredible prizes. All players will be entered in daily drawings for free concert tickets and gift certificates to the Doomtree webstore. Big winners will score airfare and backstage passes to a Doomtree show or a signed test pressing of All Hands on vinyl along with the actual burnt ship in a bottle featured on the cover. One lucky player will get every single Doomtree item currently in print–every CD, shirt, poster, book, pin, flag, hat, scarf, and koozie. Another (arguably luckier player) will get sessions with Dessa and Lazerbeak as personal life coaches. You just can’t make this stuff up (cause we did already). You can check out the full array of prize packages here.

Pop Quiz, Hot Shot was designed and programmed by Clockwork, the Minneapolis agency that’s produced clever apps and promotions for big-league clients like Disney, Verizon, and Microsoft. (If you’re thinking, How the hell did Doomtree get them?, be assured, we’re thinking the same.) The game will run for 16 days, from September 15th to the 30th.  On October 1st, the crew will select the big winners and print up the oversized checks (or at least make some congratulatory phone calls, encouraging the lucky players to uncork some champagne).

Just two days later, on October 3rd, Doomtree will throw a party of its own, the Doomtree Zoo. It’s the crew’s most ambitious event yet-an all-day spectacle at CHS Field in downtown St. Paul. Headliners include Aesop Rock with Rob Sonic, Trash TalkShabazz Palaces, and Doomtree. Will there be larger-than-life puppets? Will there be double dutch? If you look into your heart, I think you already know the answers to those questions.
The group also has a string of tour dates that run through the rest of the year, including stops at each Riot FestBoston CallingFun Fun Fun Fest and their own hometown festival, the Doomtree Zoo. All tour dates are listed below.
