Bama Works Fund Has Raised More Than $40 Million Since Inception

Concert At John Paul Jones Arena Kicked Off Band’s 2016 Summer Tour

On Saturday, May 7, Dave Matthews Band kicked off its 2016 summer tour with asold-out benefit concert at John Paul Jones Arena in its hometown of Charlottesville, VA. The event raised more than $1.5 million dollars for local charities. The band, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, wished to express its gratitude for the incredible support the community has provided over the years. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from the concert – including tickets, merchandise, VIP packages and sponsorship fees – will go to Charlottesville area charitable programs via Dave Matthews Band’s Bama Works Fund.
Founded in 1999 atthe Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the Bama Works Fund has raised more than $40 million to date and made over 1,300 grants, primarily to charitable programs in the local community. It has also responded to a variety of national and international needs. The concert was filmed for State Farm Neighborhood Sessions®, an ongoing series about artists giving back to their communities. The piece will air on Turner later this year.
Dave Matthews Band formed in Charlottesville in early 1991. The band shared its memories with the local community by hosting “DMB 25,” a photographic retrospective pop-up gallery that opened the evening prior to the John Paul Jones Arena show. The exhibit featured more than 40 images taken over the past 25 years plus a selection of memorabilia, posters, lyrics and instruments. Twenty-five of the photographs will be displayed in an exhibit opening June 16 at the famed Morrison Gallery in New York City.
The band, which will be taking a break from touring in 2017, will resume its North American tour on Wednesday, March 11, with a show at INTRUST BANK Arena in Wichita, KS. The run will include two-night stands in Camden, NJ; Elkhorn, WI; Gilford, NH; Saratoga Springs, NY; Noblesville, IN; West Palm Beach, FL and Berkeley, CA. It will wrap up with three Labor Day weekend shows at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA. See below for itinerary. Tickets are on sale now at http://davematthewsband.com.
