Daktronics Selected by Dayton Dragons to Bring 13HD Technology to Minor Leagues at Fifth Third Field
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Feb. 11, 2015 – Daktronics (NASDAQ-DAKT) of Brookings, South Dakota, announced today that the Dayton Dragons and their new ownership group, Palisades Arcadia Baseball, have selected the company to design, manufacture and install one of the first 13HD video displays to come to the minor leagues. Third Fifth Field in Dayton, Ohio, will receive the 2,050-square-foot display prior the start of the 2015 baseball season.
Only three of the 30 major league stadiums and only eight of the 31 professional football stadiums will feature 13HD LED technology in 2015.
“The video board at Fifth Third Field is so very critical to the Dayton Dragons entertainment experience,” noted Dragons team president, Robert Murphy. “To be able to enhance and improve the experience for our fans is very exciting.”
This new display will measure approximately 35 feet high at its tallest point by 65 feet wide at its widest point as it is not a standard rectangle shape. The tallest and widest display in Single-A baseball – second tallest and widest of any stadium below Triple-A level – will feature the 13HD pixel layout to provide HD quality imagery for the clearest picture of any display in the minor leagues. This display will be three times brighter than the previous display to cut through the sunlight and bring a noticeable enhancement to day games.
Compared to the previous display, this new installation will feature five times more display area, 16 times as many LEDs, twice the height, and two and a half times the width.
It will include variable content zoning which allows it to show one large image or be segmented into multiple different zones for the flexibility to highlight any combination of live video, instant replays, scoring information, up-to-the-minute statistics, graphics and animations, and sponsor messaging. It will also incorporate industry-leading environmental protection and wide angle visibility to appeal to every seat in the stadium.
“This installation will build on a partnership that spans more than a decade and we’re honored the Dayton Dragons have turned to Daktronics once again for their video display needs,” said Daktronics National Sales Manager Will Ellerbruch. “As one of the first of its kind at the minor league level, this display will have a major impact as it enhances the fan experience at every game. We’re excited to see the display up and running for their first game in 2015.”
Daktronics LED video and messaging display technology offers a long lifetime with consistent, industry-leading performance and low power consumption, providing value and excitement for years to come. As an industry leader with 30 percent market share worldwide as reported by independent research firm IHS iSuppli, Daktronics products are featured in more than two-thirds of professional baseball (25 of 30) and professional football (26 of 31) stadiums.
