Local public relations association to host Bob Turner, recently retired president and publisher of the Bradenton Herald

BRADENTON, FL – The Central West Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (CWC-FPRA) presents “A Conversation with Bob Turner,” featuring longtime president and publisher of the Bradenton Herald, Bob Turner. During the program, Turner will take a stroll down memory lane, reflecting on his 45+ year career in the newspaper business, discussing what he thinks has changed as well as the future of local newspapers and how he believes it will impact the PR industry.
The event takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Manatee Community Foundation (2820 Manatee Ave W, Bradenton). Event sponsor is Blalock Walters Attorneys at Law. Cost is $25/members, $35/guests. RSVP deadline is September 15; register online at cwcfpra.com/events.
Bob “Buzz” Turner is a graduate of the University of South Florida and a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. While he got his start in the newspaper business in 1969, he has been a resident of Manatee County and an employee of the Herald since 1979.
Turner began on the advertising side of the business, serving as retail advertising manager and director of advertising for the Herald before being named general manager in 1988, a position he held until 1996. At that time he was promoted to vice president and director of operations; then, in 2008, he was promoted to the position of president and publisher until his retirement in June of this year. He was a graduate of the inaugural class of Leadership Manatee in 1983 and has earned numerous honors for his significant contributions to the community.
“We are thrilled to welcome Bob Turner to speak at our September program,” said CWC-FPRA president Tara Poulton. “Public relations professionals rely in great part on their relationships with members of the media. Hearing from someone like Bob about where he thinks the local newspaper business is heading and how it might impact our industry will be tremendously interesting and useful in how we do our work.”
