For immediate release – (New York, NY)On Saturday evening, March 18, 2023, Corvus (the contemporary ensemble of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival) will be presenting the world premieres of six new pieces written by the participants of Composing in the Wilderness. This unusual event will take place in the stunning rotunda of Federal Hall National Memorial in Manhattan.
The concert will feature new chamber compositions by composers Yotam Haber, Alan Mackwell, Leah Mullen, Nicholas Denton Protsack, Hannah Sobel and Daniel Walter. These six composers spent an adventurous week backpacking in the inspiring wilderness of Alaska’s Wrangell St. Elias National Park, and their new compositions were all inspired by that immersive experience.
Most of the composers will all be in attendance at the event to provide insights into their pieces, and anecdotes of their adventure experience.
The members of Corvus are; Andie Tanning (violin), Katie Cox (flute), Mara Mayer (clarinet), Alex LoRe (saxophone), Charly Akert (cello), and Joe Bergen (percussion. Composing in the Wilderness is led by Stephen Lias.
