Content Media Acquires International Sales Rights to Romantic Comedy “Comet” Starring Emmy Rossum and Justin Long

IFC Films Closes North American Distribution Deal

Los Angeles, CA – October 28, 2014 – Content Media announced today that it has acquired international sales rights to the romantic comedy “Comet,” starring Golden Globe nominee Emmy Rossum (“The Day After Tomorrow,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Mystic River”), Justin Long (“Live Free or Die Hard,” “He’s Just Not That Into You”), and Eric Winter (“The Ugly Truth,” “Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay,” “Beyond: Two Souls”).

IFC Films has finalized a North American distribution deal and will release the film this December.

Content will be introducing and screening the film to international distributors for the first time at the upcoming American Film Market (AFM).

“The universal theme and inventive storytelling in ‘Comet’ have us believing that audiences will really connect with the film,” said Content Media President of Film Jamie Carmichael.  “We were drawn in immediately and are happy to have this film on our AFM slate.”

“With his feature film debut, Sam Esmail has created a romance for the ages,” says Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films. “Emmy and Justin shine in this chronicle of a star-crossed relationship.”

Directed and written by Sam Esmail, “Comet” was produced by Chad Hamilton (“Breakup at a Wedding”) for Anonymous Content and Lee Clay (“No Good Deed”). The film is a Fubar Films production with Colin Bates (‘Maggie”) serving as executive producer along with Peter M. DeGeorge, Steve Golin, Justin Long, Emmy Rossum and William A. Stetson.

“Comet” is an original modern love story that follows Kimberly (Emma Rossum) and Dell (Justin Long), who first meets at the Hollywood cemetery where they’ve both come to watch a meteor shower. Kimberly is brilliant and beautiful; Dell is nerdy and pessimistic, but with an incredibly sharp mind and direct manner. While she and he are not a natural pair, they are cosmically drawn to each other and, under a night sky, luminous with falling stars, they begin their epic love story.

But what starts as a typical romance quickly turns dreamlike as viewers leap back and forth in time, examining their eventual six-year relationship through the lens of their meeting and four other pivotal moments: a monumentous fight at a friend’s wedding in Paris; a break up conversation after Dell has moved to New York; a reconnection on a train ride along the California coast; and finally, when Dell pops in on Kimberly unexpectedly in her home in the Hollywood Hills.

The leaps between these moments are seamlessly woven together to create a sense that this love story transcends time and space and that Kimberly and Dell are destined to be together, if not in this universe, then maybe the next.

Jamie Carmichael negotiated the deal to handle international sales rights for “Comet” with the film’s producers. Arianna Bocco negotiated the North American distribution deal for IFC.

In addition to “Comet”, Content’s sales slate currently includes the intense horror ‘The Diabolical’ starring Ali Larter; ‘Ocsar Wilde’s The Canterville Ghost‘ voiced by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie; the uplifting emotional drama ‘Life at these Speeds’ starring Billy Crudup, AnnaSophia Robb and Sam Rockwell; ‘Janis: Little Girl Blue’ directed by Academy® Award nominated Amy Berg; the spy thriller ‘Newcomer’ starring James Floyd and Anthony LaPaglia; Academy® Award winning director Mike van Diem returns with the romantic comedy ‘The Surprise’; Rodney Asher’s ‘The Nightmare’ which follows his acclaimed documentary ‘Room 237′; Caradog James’ directing the supernatural thriller ‘Don’t Knock Twice’; the supernatural heist thriller ‘The Trust’; the extraordinary, moving, white-knuckle drive with one of the greatest movie stars of all time documentary ‘Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans‘ and Academy® Award winner John Ridley’s ‘Jimi: All Is By My Side’ starring Andre Benjamin, Hayley Atwell and Imogen Poots.
