CITY WINERY CHICAGO ANNOUNCES
CHICAGO PHILHARMONIC CHAMBER PLAYERS FALL SERIES
CP2’S CASUAL MONTHLY BRUNCH SERIES PLAYS SUNDAY DATES IN OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER
CHICAGO (October 6, 2015) – City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph, is proud to host the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra’s fall Sunday brunch series. The Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players (cp2) are dedicated to the original concept of chamber music as “the music of friends” by capturing the jam-session feel of great music played by great musicians. The three-part monthly series kicks off in October with classical songs of longing, continues in November with some groovy jazz, and culminates in December with cool Christmas cuts.
The Chicago Philharmonic Sunday Series takes place Sundays, Oct. 25, Nov. 22 & Dec. 20, at noon. Doors open at 11 a.m., and brunch is available for purchase before and during the performance. Casual attire is encouraged. Individual general admission tickets are available for $25 at www.citywinery.com/chicago. Three-concert cp2 series subscriptions are available for $50. www.citywinery.com/chicago
The Transcendent Voice: Songs of Longing by Schubert, Mahler & Cooke: Sunday, Oct. 25
Neil Kimel (horn) and Alan Darling (piano) add an orchestral range of color and harmony to this unique trio fronted by mezzo-soprano Susan Platts (pictured), “The Warmest Classical Diva You’ll Ever Meet.” The group begins with Schubert’s “Auf dem Strom,” which depicts a contemplative speaker who is being whisked away from home and love on a river’s current. Next they perform a set of lesser known but equally evocative nocturnes by British composer Arnold Cooke. The trio closes with Gustav Mahler’s hauntingly beautiful Kindertotenlieder, in which love ultimately triumphs over loss.
Feelin’ Good: Grooving Music from Nina Simone, Zvonimir Tot, Gershwin & Beyond: Sunday, Nov. 22
cp2 finds its groove in a fusion of Nina Simone, jazz guitar and cutting-edge classical as a string quartet with the additions of fabulous soprano Adrienne Walker, jazz guitarist Zvonimir Tot and bassist Rob Kassinger. Currently with the national tour of Dirty Dancing, Walker sets the tone for this concert with her considerable vocal range, from the bluesy Nina Simone to the soaring melodies of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess.
St. Nick in Shades: Fresh Riffs on Holiday Tunes: Sunday, Dec. 20
Vocal stylist Cheryl Wilson sings a cool program of holiday favorites that runs the gamut from jazz tunes like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” to classical pieces like “Oh Holy Night” and pop hits like “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Wilson – who has collaborated with artists as diverse as Michael Jackson, Mavis Staples and Celine Dion – navigates this varied terrain with her versatile voice. Jim Gailloreto struts his stuff as he expertly showcases the colorful sounds of the woodwind family, including various saxophones and flutes. And pianist Jeremy Kahn tempers the afternoon’s wide-ranging program with a jazz flavor.
All City Winery events are open to all ages, unless noted.
