Chesapeake Marine Training Institute to Host Mariner Job Fair and Open House May 6

GLOUCESTER, Va. – Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will host a mariner job fair and open house May 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its Hayes campus located at 3566 George Washington Memorial Highway.

Professional maritime companies will be on site to meet and interview potential job candidates.

Among the mariners the companies are seeking include deckhands, wheelhouse tug operators, engineers, and tankermen.

Mariners of all license and credential levels are encouraged to attend.

Chesapeake Marine Training Institute staff and instructors will be available to work with job candidates on licensing and credentialing needs.

Mariners are encouraged to register for the free job fair.

“This is an opportunity for candidates to get to know professionals in the maritime industry that we’ve fostered relationships with,” said Amanda Symonds, General Manager at Chesapeake Marine Training Institute. “Not only do we get the pleasure of training mariners to provide them with the knowledge they will need to succeed, but we also want to introduce them to some of the top maritime companies in our area and this event allows us to do just that.”

Maritime companies interested in attending as a vendor are welcome. Hiring managers should contact Chesapeake Marine Training Institute to sign up.

Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will provide table display space for companies to meet and greet job applicants, as well as private rooms to interview potential candidates. Space to attend the event as a professional maritime company is free, but limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The open house will feature maritime equipment on display to include a single-arm davit with rescue boat and a life raft along with other various demonstrations. Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will have instructors and professionals from the industry available to discuss career opportunities.

Applicants and vendors attending the event from out of the area are eligible to use the Chesapeake Marine Training Institute rate at nearby hotels.

During the job fair and open house, Chesapeake Marine Training Institute will be collecting donations for a Relay for Life team called “Mariner’s Against Cancer” for the walk that will take place the following weekend. Applicants who donate at least $5 will receive a 5 percent discount on a future course.
