Monday, September 18, 2017 – Sarasota, FL – Cat Depot currently has more than 130 cats and kittens in its care including 30 evacuated from the Jacksonville Humane Society prior to Hurricane Irma ravaging the state.

Since the storm, Cat Depot has been assisting both local and national organizations with hurricane recovery. As a leader in animal welfare, our Emergency Response Team has:

• Provided temporary shelter during the storm for 42 cats, 30 of which have been admitted to Cat Depot’s Adoption Program. The remaining cats have since returned to their original shelter.
• Relocated 30 dogs from a local rescue to Miami where they boarded a flight to Seattle to make room for local animals affected by the storm.
• Transported a truck-full of supplies from Miami to The Keys and Fort Myers for animals in need and shared supplies with other local rescues such as crates, carriers, and litter.
• Provided free or low-cost carriers to the public for the safe transport of their personal pets before, during, and after the storm.

It is due to the generosity of the community that we are able to assist with recovery efforts and save more lives after the storm. Many more cats and kittens will need help in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Money raised during the Help Meowt Matching Gift Challenge will not only be used towards the daily needs of the cats entrusted to our care but the animals throughout the state of Florida. The Help Meowt Matching Gift Challenge was created to fill the fundraising void left when the Community Foundation of Sarasota County’s Giving Challenge was postponed until May 2018.

To help Cat Depot care for these animals, please donate online at www.catdepot.org. Thanks to two anonymous donors, all donations of $25 or more made now through September 20 will be doubled as part of Cat Depot’s Help Meowt Challenge.
