“We really wanted to give back to the fans and people who cover our songs by running this contest. It was the least we could do to let them know we’re watching all their videos. It means the world that they care enough about us to cover our music.”– JP Makhlouf (Cash Cash)
Cash Cash has announced details of a new version of their current hit single, “Surrender” (Big Beat Records). The acclaimed dance outfit recorded the all-acoustic rendition earlier this year in Los Angeles, accompanied by vocalist, Alice Lee, who was chosen via StarMaker’s “Sing With Cash Cash” promotion, as well as a full string section–including one student from GRAMMY U, which premiered on Teen Vogue.
From its inception, this single has showcased Cash Cash’s relentless drive to promote undiscovered talent and push the boundaries of artist/fan interaction. Building on this, the trio partnered with StarMaker to run a nationwide talent discovery competition to help launch “Surrender” and give fans a new way to engage with their music. Singers from across the country competed to record their best covers of the hit single using StarMaker’s mobile platform, for the once in a lifetime chance to be featured in this exclusive acoustic performance. The winning artist, Alice Lee of Chicago, IL, was personally selected by Cash Cash for this unprecedented opportunity.
“Surrender” is currently ascending the Top 40 on Billboard’s “Pop Songs” chart, fuelled by heavy rotation on such high profile outlets as SiriusXM Hits 1 and New York City’s ever-influential KTU. In addition, the track is a Top 20 favorite on the “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” tally, and a Top 10 smash on the “Dance/Mixshow Airplay” ranking. The official “Surrender” companion video which premiered on Nylon is also scoring major play at MTV and Fuse; alongside a striking interactive version–powered by Interlude–which premiered via Buzzfeed.
“Surrender” has also garnered Cash Cash some of best notices of their already acclaimed career. Entertainment Weekly declared the track to be “original, infectious, vibrant” while Idolator praised Cash Cash’s “winning formula of hearty female vocals that float over a throbbing, synth-laden beat.” “(‘Surrender’) catches the ear immediately,” raved Earmilk, “light, bubbly, interesting and just screams ‘radio hit’ right off the bat.” Dancing Astronaut waxed rhapsodic over “Surrender,” applauding its “melodic plateau surrounded by…tantalizing vocals.”
Cash Cash has also taken the electronic pop scene by storm with their vibrant remixes, energetic DJ sets, and chart-topping club hits like 2014’s RIAA gold certified breakthrough, “Take Me Home (Feat. Bebe Rexha).” The New York-based trio – Jean Paul Makhlouf, Alex Makhlouf, and Samuel Frisch – is currently putting finishing touches on their hugely anticipated Big Beat Records debut album, slated for release later this year. An exclusive “Meet Cash Cash” interview can be viewed now at Complex TV.
“Take Me Home (Feat. Bebe Rexha)” – included on 2013’s Big Beat Records debut, “OVERTIME EP” – made a top 25 splash on Billboard’s “Dance/Electronic Songs” while topping the Mediabase Dance Chart and earning major airplay at CHR/Pop radio outlets nationwide. The track’s companion video – directed by DJay Brawner (Ed Sheeran, Panic! At The Disco) – has garnered close to 15 million YouTube views.
The “LIGHTNING EP” followed in 2014, highlighted by the single, “Lightning (Feat. John Rzeznik),” co-written by the iconic Goo Goo Dolls frontman. The track also reaped rave reviews, with Dancing Astronaut celebrating it as “an infectious radio smash destined for inspiring festival-sized sing-a-longs throughout the summer.”
Named “Best Break-Through Artist (Group)” at last year’s International Dance Music Awards, Cash Cash made waves by producing and co-writing Krewella’s hit “Live For The Night,” has unleashed a string of extraordinary remixes for such blockbusters as Katy Perry’s “Birthday,” Bruno Mars’ “Treasure,” Calvin Harris’ “Let’s Go (Feat. Ne-Yo),” and Lady Gaga’s “Marry The Night,” as well as Big Beat labelmates Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” and Icona Pop’s “All Night,” the latter of which reached #1 on The Hype Machine. In addition to the trio has traveled nearly non-stop in recent months, lighting up crowds at headline club shows, Budweiser’s “Made In America” Tour, support sets alongside Calvin Harris, Hardwell, Nicky Romero, Krewella, Tiësto, and Zedd, and countless international festivals like Lollapalooza, EDC NY, Nocturnal Wonderland, Firefly Music Festival, TomorrowWorld, and Stereosonic.
