DENVER – June 21, 2016 – The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company continues to bring outstanding stage productions to cinema screens with a new vision of Shakespeare’s heartbreaking tale of forbidden love. Presented in high-contrast black and white, “Branagh Theatre Live: Romeo and Juliet,” comes to select U.S. movie theaters for a spectacular one-night event on Thursday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m. local time. Reuniting the stars of the celebrated film “Cinderella,” Rob Ashford and Kenneth Branagh co-direct Richard Madden and Lily James as Romeo and Juliet, Derek Jacobi as Mercutio, and Meera Syal as The Nurse in this contemporary take on the ageless love story.

Tickets for “Branagh Theatre Live: Romeo and Juliet” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com or at participating theater box offices. Fans throughout the U.S. will be able to enjoy the event in nearly 270 movie theaters through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change).

“‘Romeo and Juliet’ was the first Shakespeare I directed. It was 30 years ago and it’s been a privilege to go back to that play again and experience its dynamism and volatility. It has such a rare intensity that translates powerfully to the big screen,” said Kenneth Branagh.

Directors Branagh and Ashford present this modern, passionate version of the Bard’s classic tragedy. A longstanding feud between Verona’s Montague and Capulet families brings about devastating consequences for two young lovers caught in the conflict.

“’Romeo and Juliet’ is a timeless classic, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership with the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company to bring this story to life,” Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said. “With such bright and talented stars whose chemistry is undeniable, this production is sure to impress.”

James Merchant, Marketing Manager for Picturehouse Entertainment said, “Following the success of last year’s ‘The Winter’s Tale,’ we are thrilled to be bringing ‘Romeo and Juliet’ to American audiences with Fathom Events. This dazzling production has been met with acclaim from both press and audiences in London’s West End and features an incredible cast of new stars and legendary performers. With this year being the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is not to be missed.”
