Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (best known for the groundbreaking “Mystery Science Theater 3000”), along with Fathom Events, is proud to announce two “Best of RiffTrax” showings. The two fan favorites to be shown at select movie theaters nationwide are the entomophobia-inducing Rifftrax Live: Starship Troopers on Thursday, January 14, followed by the beloved cult classic, “RiffTrax Live: The Room,” on Thursday, January 28, both at 7:30 p.m. local time.

RiffTrax Live: Starship Troopers – Thursday, January 14 at 7:30 p.m. local time
This 1997 giant-alien-bug war flick is an adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s classic 1950’s novel of the same name, but with bigger, juicier bugs. Screenplay by Ed Neumeier and directed by Paul Verhoeven, the film is known for its groundbreaking visual effects, including large-scale CG battle scenes with menacing alien bug warriors. “Starship Troopers” is the tale of young trooper Johnny Rico, played by the impossibly handsome Casper Van Dien. He’s joined by the impossibly darling Denise Richards, who plays plucky pilot Lieutenant Carmen Ibanez. Together, they go pretty much straight from their high school prom into the galaxy-wide gooey mess that is the Bug-pocalypse. They’re joined by the impossibly nice guy Neil Patrick Harris, an intelligence officer with psychic abilities that help him read the minds of the “bugs.” Throw in Jake Busey, Michael Ironside — with his “Come on, you apes! You wanna live forever?” catchphrase — plus a galactic love triangle and gallons of insect guts, and you’ve got the great, sprawling high-energy madness that is “Starship Troopers.”

“Rifftrax Live: Starship Troopers” was first premiered by Fathom Events on August 15, 2013.

RiffTrax Live: The Room – Thursday, January 28 at 7:30 p.m. local time
If there were ever a movie tailor-made for the RiffTrax guys, “The Room” is it! Perhaps the most baffling and inadvertently hilarious independent film ever produced, “The Room” has won legions of fans around the world and become a favorite at festivals and midnight screenings! It, kind of, tells the story of a San Francisco bank employee (played by writer/director/auteur Tommy Wiseau) whose fiancée seduces Tommy’s best friend. This tears him apart, causing him to: put on a tuxedo, toss a football with his weird neighbor, have long puzzling rooftop discussions, and eventually, throw a very light TV out his own window.

“RiffTrax Live: The Room” was first premiered by Fathom Events on May 6, 2015.

Fathom Events CEO John Rubey said, “The RiffTrax crew never fails to create some of our most popular, and without doubt, funniest events. A testament to their comedic chops and overwhelming fan demand, these encores give comedy fans nationwide another opportunity to experience their biting humor.”
