BELOVED 80s ICON LEA THOMPSON HOSTS A WEEK-LONG SUMMER 80s MOVIE EVENT ON HDNET MOVIES FROM JULY 22 THROUGH JULY 27 EVERY NIGHT AT 8pE
Thompson Sits Down with Journalist Tara McNamara To Discuss ‘Iconic 80s’ Films Including ST. ELMO’S FIRE, STRIPES, REPO MAN, SHORT CIRCUIT, CHRISTINE, XANADU, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL, & More
Los Angeles – June 17, 2019 – Dust off your parachute pants and Members Only jacket, and join HDNET MOVIES for the ultimate celebration of everything ‘80s in the “Iconic 80s with Lea Thompson” movie event—a nostalgia-fueled lineup putting the spotlight on 23 decade-defining favorites hosted by actress, director and producer Lea Thompson (Back To The Future, Red Dawn), with journalist and 80s film expert Tara McNamara. The event airs from Monday, July 22 through Saturday, July 27 every night at 8pE, and features special Q&As with Thompson, as well as insightful discussions where the duo reflect on each film and examine the stars and styles that made the ‘80s so totally rad.
In this first-look clip, Thompson reflects on working during the renaissance of teen films and the “brat pack” in the 80s, “it was an interesting time to be an actress because it was… the first time where they brought in young people as people. Not just like, we’re Beach Blanket Bingo, or something like that. They were complex characters, and I happened to be there at the right time to get those parts… where they would take a chance on someone with no experience as an actor. I got really lucky that way.”
The week kicks off on July 22 with Thompson in two early starring roles, as she comes between best friends Eric Stoltz and Mary Stewart Masterson in the 1987 drama SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL at 8pE, and heads off to a health spa to land the perfect man in the 1988 romp CASUAL SEX?—with Saturday Night Live bombshell Victoria Jackson and groundbreaking funnyman Andrew Dice Clay—at 9:45pE.
Other highlights include Rob Lowe and Demi Moore in the Brat Pack classic ST. ELMO’S FIRE, and Anthony Michael Hall and Robert Downey Jr. in JOHNNY BE GOOD (July 22); Tom Hanks and Sally Field in the 1988 stand-up comedy PUNCHLINE, and Emilio Estevez in the sci-fi cult hit REPO MAN (July 23); comedy trailblazers Richard Pryor and Jackie Gleason in THE TOY, and Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg in the rolling robot adventure SHORT CIRCUIT (July 24); James Woods and Jeff Bridges in the 1984 thriller AGAINST ALL ODDS, and Olivia Newton-John in the roller-disco fantasy XANADU (July 25); a pair of Stephen King shockers featuring John Carpenter’s CHRISTINE, and Corey Haim in SILVER BULLET (July 26); SNL legends Bill Murray in STRIPES, Chevy Chase in SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES, and Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in NEIGHBORS (July 27); and many more.
