BACKSTAGE AT THE PLAYERS PRESENTS “LOVE, LOSS & WHAT I WORE”

Sarasota, FL – Backstage at The Players will present the award-winning comedy “Love, Loss and What I Wore” in the intimate blackbox studio space of The Players Theatre from Jan. 28 – Feb. 7, 2016. Written by sisters Nora and Delia Ephron and based on the 1995 book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman, the play features an ensemble cast of six women who share stories about long ago–prom dresses, buying the right bra, being fat, being thin, men, mothers, girlfriends, hating every purse we’ve ever owned and wearing lipstick into surgery.

“This is a show meant for women, of course, but also for the men who love them,” says director Linda MacCluggage. “The stories trigger memories that we share and are, by turns, funny, poignant, sexy and universal.”

The show is staged on a simple set of cubes and platforms, anchored by the narrator Gingy (played by Lynne Doyle). The ensemble cast of Erika Ginsberg , Tammy Halsted, Ronda Hewitt, Carrie McQueen and Victoria Tokarz play all the other parts in the remaining two dozen vignettes. Lucinda Schlotterback is Assistant Director.

“Love, Loss and What I Wore” was initially presented as a benefit show for a New York theater in 2009. Since then it has been produced on six continents and enjoyed a three year off-Broadway run with rotating casts of celebrities reading from the script. This will be the first Sarasota regional production of the play using local actresses.

Backstage at The Players is dedicated to presenting cutting-edge, contemporary American plays in an intimate black box setting—to produce bold work by both new and established writers in an accessible way at affordable ticket prices.
