Astralwerks has signed pioneering electronic act Underworld and will release the duo’s seventh studio album, Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future, on March 18, 2016. The visualizer “Shining Future, Pt. 1,” which premiered HERE today, gives fans a first taste of the album. See below for track listing. The pre-order for Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future launched today at http://smarturl.it/UWBarbaraiTunes.
“We’re really excited to be working with the team at Astralwerks…they’ve been a constant in the world of electronic music throughout our career and it’s fantastic to finally work with them on our new album,” said Underworld’s Karl Hyde and Rick Smith.
So what can one expect from the shining future? The opening punch of a two-note detuned bass riff crunching over relentless percussion; the elegiac swoop of strings as they stretch out across off-world electronics; a demented lupine howl that curls itself into an unshakeable earworm; celestial techno and South American acoustics; voices that warp into harmonic riffs; found lyrics that form fine-tuned monologues; head music to dance to and much more.
Barbara Barbara, we face a shining future – the duo’s first studio album since 2010’s Barking – finds Underworld creatively reborn. Its seven tracks are fleet-footed, raw and spontaneous – a direct result of a strict working process in the studio that saw the band members write entirely new music each time they met. That process has helped produce an album that stands alongside the recently reissued classics dubnobasswithmyheadman and Second Toughest In The Infants, Underworld’s first and second albums. The tour that followed the reissues included a sold-out show at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl in June of 2015, which prompted the Los Angeles Times to marvel, “Underworld mesmerizes…On a revelatory night of giddy release, Underworld turned the Bowl into a massive party…” Visit underworldlive.com for touring news.

About Underworld:
Underworld – the British duo Karl Hyde and Rick Smith – has been one of the most influential electronic acts in the world for more than 20 years. In that time, their music has transcended club dance floors and provided soundtracks to everything from iconic movies (including Trainspotting, the closing sequence of which was cut to the B-side “Born Slippy (Nuxx)”) to the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games (for which they were handpicked as musical directors).
About Astralwerks:
Astralwerks Records is one of America’s pre-eminent homes for unique and forward-thinking artists. Founded in 1993 in New York City the label helped ignite two explosive waves of musical creativity: first with Electronica in the ’90s, and more recently with EDM in the new millennium, while also nurturing artists beyond the realm of dance music. Astralwerks’ roster includes The Chemical Brothers, Kraftwerk, deadmau5, Fatboy Slim, Swedish House Mafia, Air, Porter Robinson, Empire Of The Sun, Alison Wonderland, Duke Dumont, Lemaitre, Kings of Convenience, Audien, The Kooks, Eric Prydz, Urban Cone and Mat Zo among many more.
