at the Out-of-Door Academy, Lower School
In the spirit of Shakespeare in the Park, Asolo Rep will host a free Family Day at A Midsummer Night’s Dream on October 11 at the Out-of-Door Academy Lower School outdoor amphitheater. In case of rain, the performance will be moved inside. A pre-show workshop will include an introduction to the characters, Shakespeare’s language, and an actor’s warm-up. Families may also bring their own picnics to enjoy after the performance. Family Day is recommended for ages 9 and up.
From September through November 2014, Asolo Rep presents the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training New Stages Tour production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This modern 45-minute adaptation will tour local schools and community venues from Tallahassee to Miami. In this streamlined version, the city of Athens becomes Athens Academy, a prestigious private school, its rulers the dean and principal, and the fairies rebellious teens who would rather hang out in the woods near the academy than go to class.
