“Artist Series Concerts has been bringing world-class artists to Sarasota for more than 20 years,” says Olivia Swaan, president of Artist Series Concerts Friends. “We’re delighted to celebrate this legacy with a festive party that evokes the magic of Carnevale di Venezia!”
Will and Anthony Nunziata are a Brooklyn-born, classically trained singing and comedy duo hailed by The Huffington Post as “a nearly impossible pairing of talent, stage presence and charisma.” The Nunziata brothers have brought their distinct take on classic and contemporary songs to performing arts centers, theaters, and symphony concerts across the country. They recently headlined Carnegie Hall for two sold-out concerts with the New York Pops Symphony Orchestra.
“As entertaining as the evening will be, we never forget the reason behind it—to raise funds for our celebrated student scholarship and outreach programs,” says Swaan. “A central focus of Artist Series Concert’s mission is to spark a lifelong love of the musical arts and expose young people to the possibilities of careers in the world of music. In the past decade we’ve raised more than $270,000 for 72 gifted young musicians. Our focus is the future and this gala makes that future possible.”
From its inception in 2007, Artist Series Concerts’ statewide young musician’s scholarship competition has come to be one of the most prestigious competitions in Florida, awarding more than $20,000 annually to young pianists, string instrument players or singers. Past winners have gone on to study at leading music conservatories and pursued successful music careers. In 2016, the competition expanded to become nationwide in scale, rotating each year between singers, pianists, and string instrument players. On April 29, 2017, Artist Series Concerts hosts its second annual Sarasota National Music Scholarship Awards, featuring young pianists between the ages of 18 and 25. The organization also co-hosts the Suncoast Music Scholarships, an annual collaborative competition organized and funded by Artist Series Concerts and the Sarasota Music Club. This initiative awards another $20,000 to young musicians from high schools in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
