Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota Receives a Tourist Development Cultural/Arts Grant and a State of Florida, Division of Cultural Affairs Grant

The two grants will be used toward empowering and promoting the organization’s 2017-2018 season.

(Sarasota-Manatee) The Sarasota County Commission recently awarded Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota a $48,758 Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grant to help fund its 2017-2018 season, “In Focus,” which features 41 concerts featuring a wide range of musical offerings, September 2017 through May 2018. In addition, the organization received $6,355 from the State of Florida’s Division of Cultural Affairs, to be used for general program support over the course of the 2017-2018 season.

“We’re very grateful to receive these grants,” says John Fischer, managing director of Artist Series Concerts. “Both grants enable us to continue bringing outstanding musicians to Sarasota County,” adding that the grant funds will be used, in part, to create regional awareness of the organization’s offerings.

“A major objective of the TDC grant is to attract visitors to Sarasota County—and to engage them while they’re here,” says Fischer. “Our audience surveys show that a third of our audience comes from outside Sarasota County. We design our annual marketing and program strategies using this and other data we gather on an ongoing basis.”

Fischer notes that, over the past decade, Artist Series Concerts has become an integral part of Sarasota County’s rich arts and cultural landscape. “We’re delighted to add value to Sarasota’s vibrant cultural tourism industry,” he says. “A thriving arts community not only adds to the vitality and quality of life for its residents—it also draws cultural tourists who effect a significant economic impact on the community.”

Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota’s 2017-2018 season, which runs September 2017 through May 2018, features 41 performances at a variety of venues throughout Sarasota County. Concerts cover a wide range of musical offerings, including classical recitals, pops, jazz and cabaret concerts, a Bach festival, chamber soirées and the popular Lunch & Listen series.
