(Sarasota, Florida) Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota presents cellist Bion Tsang and pianist Adam Neiman, Saturday, April 18, 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, April 19, 7:30 p.m., at the Historic Asolo Theater, 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota. The program includes Faure’s Elegie, Op. 24; Beethoven’s Sonata in A Major, Op. 69; Rachmaninoff’s Sonata in G minor, Op. 19; and Ponce-Heifetz’s “Estrellita.” Tickets are $25 to $45 and can be purchased online at www.artistseriesconcerts.org or by calling 941-360-7399.
Bion Tsang’s many honors include an Avery Fisher Career Grant, an MEF Career Grant and the Bronze Medal in the IX International Tchaikovsky Competition. His orchestral appearances include the U.S. premiere of Enescu’s “Symphonie Concertante” with the American Symphony Orchestra, the U.S. premiere of Tan Dun’s “Crouching Tiger Concerto” at Atlanta’s Symphony Hall, and the Boston premiere of Korngold’s “Cello Concerto.” Tsang is a frequent collaborator with chamber orchestras and festivals around the nation, including the Boston Chamber Music Society and Camerata Pacifica of Los Angeles, the Seattle Chamber Music Society, and the Laurel Festival of the Arts, where he serves as artistic director. Adam Neiman is hailed as one of the finest pianists of his generation, praised for possessing a truly rare blend of power, bravura, imagination, sensitivity, and technical precision. He made his concerto début at the age of 11 in Los Angeles’ Royce Hall. At 15, he won second prize at the Casagrande International Piano Competition in Italy, the youngest winner in the competition’s history and, in 1995, became the youngest winner of the Gilmore Young Artist Award. The following year he won the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and went on to make his Washington D.C. and New York recital débuts at the Kennedy Center and the 92nd Street Y. His career has brought performances throughout the world in collaboration with leading orchestras and conductors, in chamber music and in recitals, with recordings and broadcasts, as well as compositions. In addition, Neiman is the newest member of Trio Solisti, one of America’s celebrated piano trios. Neiman is a member of the piano performance faculty at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and regularly serves on the summer chamber music faculty of the Manchester Music Festival in Vermont. Since 1996, Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota has presented an ever-expanding annual season of concerts by globally renowned and celebrated emerging artists. The 2014-2015 season runs through May 2015 and includes six concerts in its “Classical Recital Series,” four concerts in its “Pop Series,” and three special concerts. Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota
Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota was formed in 1996 as the Artist Series of Sarasota. The group is a non-profit corporation based in Sarasota, FL, that prides itself on presenting several major national and international varieties of concert, opera, orchestral, Broadway and film performances throughout their season. The majority of the performances are staged at the restored Historic Asolo Theater at The Ringling.
