Art Center Sarasota Receives Sarasota County Tourist Development Cultural/Arts Grant

The $39,652 grant will help fund “Merging Parallels,” the organization’s 2014-2015 exhibition season, which runs October 2014 through September 2015.

(Sarasota, FL) The Sarasota County Commission recently awarded Art Center Sarasota a $39,652 Tourist Development Cultural/Arts grant to help fund its 2014/2015 exhibition season entitled “Merging Parallels.” The exhibition season runs October 23, 2014, through September 30, 2015, and is comprised of seven cycles, each encompassing up to four exhibits.

“Thanks to this grant, Art Center Sarasota will continue to engage the public with exceptional exhibitions and broaden our audience base to reach outside of Sarasota County,” says Lisa Berger, the center’s director. According to Berger, Art Center Sarasota’s critically acclaimed exhibits draw local, national and international visitors. “The TDC grant funds help us go beyond expectations and put Sarasota on the cultural map,” she says.

Art Center Sarasota launches its season on October 23, 2014, with “Heated Exchange,” a curated exhibit of encaustic art. The kick-off exhibition cycle also includes “Figure & Abstraction,” showcasing the art of Sarasota-based artist Larry Forgard, “Black Box Projects” featuring cutting-edge work by area-based students, and “Applied Practice,” an open, all-media, all-subject, juried exhibition.

About Art Center Sarasota

Art Center Sarasota was the first arts and cultural institution in Sarasota. It was founded in 1926 as the “Sarasota Art Association” by Marcia Rader, the art supervisor for the Sarasota County schools district. In the early years, the group met monthly and sponsored exhibits in rented facilities. The Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1943 and has been in its current location in the Sarasota Bayfront Cultural District since 1949. Art Center Sarasota is now a membership-based organization that offers curated and juried exhibitions, adult and youth education programs, outreach initiatives for underserved youth, and culturally related public programming. Art Center Sarasota’s mission is to inspire individual creative expression, nurture artistic talent and provide the community with accessible and diverse visual art opportunities.
