(Sarasota, FL) Art Center Sarasota presents the first annual “iconcept jr” runway event, Sunday, September 25, noon to 2 p.m., at Art Center Sarasota, 707 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. This inaugural event features a runway fashion show of outfits and accessories created from unconventional materials by artists and designers, ages 8-18. General admission tickets, which include a buffet lunch, are $50 for adults; $25 for people under 18. VIP tickets are $75 and include a seat at the runway. Proceeds from ticket sales help benefit Art Center Sarasota’s youth scholarships and education outreach programs. To purchase tickets, visit www.artsarasota.org/iconceptjr or call 941-365-2032.
According to Lisa Berger, the founder of the original “iconcept” runway event, which is celebrating its ninth year as one of the region’s most distinctive fundraisers, iconcept jr was developed to challenge emerging artists and designers, ages 8-18. Berger says some of these young people attended classes at the center during the summer where they learned how to create wearable fashions and accessories using materials other than fabric. The students worked directly with iconcept artists to learn, firsthand, the intricacies of fashion design, construction, creative thinking and problem-solving.
“We’re amazed by what these young rebels of the runway created for the inaugural event,” says Berger. “We’re also honored to be a vital part of inspiring their young minds to be at their creative best.”
Sponsorship opportunities for the 2016 iconcept jr are still available. For more information on becoming a sponsor, call 941-365-2032 or email Lisa Berger at [email protected].
About Art Center Sarasota
Art Center Sarasota was the first arts and cultural institution in Sarasota. It was founded in 1926 as the “Sarasota Art Association” by Marcia Rader, the art supervisor for the Sarasota County schools district. In the early years, the group met monthly and sponsored exhibits in rented facilities. The Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1943 and has been in its current location in the Sarasota Bayfront Cultural District since 1949. Art Center Sarasota is now a membership-based organization that offers curated and juried exhibitions, adult and youth education programs, outreach initiatives for underserved youth, and culturally related public programming. Art Center Sarasota’s mission is to inspire individual creative expression, nurture artistic talent and provide the community with accessible and diverse visual art opportunities.
