(Sarasota, FL) Art Center Sarasota presents the eighth annual “iconcept” art couture runway event, Sunday, February 21, at Saks Fifth Avenue in The Mall at University Town Center. This year’s event features a runway fashion show of creative couture-like ensembles created by area artists from unconventional materials. The evening also includes a gourmet sit-down dinner, and a silent auction offering an assortment of inspired gifts and experiences. A “Hello Gorgeous” photo booth for guests to create lasting memories of the evening will also be available. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with a champagne reception courtesy of Saks Fifth Avenue, followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m., with the fashion show at 8 p.m. Tickets to the show and dinner are $175. General admission is $75. Dinner guests will be seated around the runway and served a wonderful dinner, including wine and complimentary champagne. General admission guests will enjoy dinner by the bite and cash bar upstairs in the mall and can watch the show from a great vantage point above or downstairs in open seating. Chairs for the event are Barbara Banks, Terry McKee and Jordan Berger. Event presenting sponsors are The Herald Tribune Media Group, Saks Fifth Avenue and The Mall at University Town Center. Funds raised through this event help Art Center Sarasota fulfill the mission to provide Sarasota with opportunities for creative expression and art appreciation through art education, exhibitions and cultural programs. Reservation deadline is February 12. For information and reservations, call 941-365-2032 or visit www.artsarasota.org/iconcept2016.

For eight years, Art Center Sarasota’s iconcept team has challenged area artists to create ensembles from unexpected, non-traditional materials. The results have been nothing less than extraordinary. This season’s artists and designers include Barbara Anderson, Lisa Berger, Susan Burke, Cathy Comora, Eric Cross, Marcia Ente, Susan Fader, Larry Forgard, Barbara Gerdeman, Amanda Gilliland, Dari Goggins, Elizabeth Goodwill, Traci Kegerreis, Samantha Kelly, Ali Lambert, Alexandra Lin, Sheldon McCloud, Gail Mongiello, Ray Peper, Stephanie Peters, Ellen Rose, Pamela Moore & Taylor Klar, Andrea Silvergleit, Hunter Slade, Jim Stewart, Pamela Sumner, Lela Thompson, Sarah Viviana Valdez, Anita Wexler, Sharon White and Colleen White.

According to Lisa Berger, the founder of iconcept and Art Center Sarasota’s executive director, the event has become a vital fundraiser and awareness builder for Art Center Sarasota. “The funds we raise from this event help us maintain our outreach and in-house educational programs, as well as the exciting exhibitions. It’s also a wonderful way for area-based artists to connect with new audiences and other area artists.”

Berger adds: “These artists never fail to amaze us; their ingenuity, originality and wit have made this one of the season’s most colorful and anticipated events.”

Sponsorship opportunities for the 2016 iconcept are still available. For more information on becoming a sponsor, call 941-365-2032 or email Lisa Berger at [email protected].

About Art Center Sarasota

Art Center Sarasota was the first arts and cultural institution in Sarasota. It was founded in 1926 as the “Sarasota Art Association” by Marcia Rader, the art supervisor for the Sarasota County schools district. In the early years, the group met monthly and sponsored exhibits in rented facilities. The Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1943 and has been in its current location in the Sarasota Bayfront Cultural District since 1949. Art Center Sarasota is now a membership-based organization that offers curated and juried exhibitions, adult and youth education programs, outreach initiatives for underserved youth, and culturally related public programming. Art Center Sarasota’s mission is to inspire individual creative expression, nurture artistic talent and provide the community with accessible and diverse visual art opportunities.
