“Women Today & Tomorrow: What to Cherish, What to Change”
Sarasota, Florida—On January 21, 2021, at 7pm, to celebrate the inauguration of the first female Vice President of the United States and to commemorate the anniversary of the Woman’s March on Washington, the Sarasota Chapter of the Brandeis National Committee will be hosting a “virtual” event via Zoom with feminist pioneer Letty Cottin Pogrebin in conversation with Journalist Carrie Seidman.
The evening conversation entitled “Women Today & Tomorrow: What to Cherish, What to Change” will cover a number of wide-ranging topics about women’s on-going struggle for equality in the workplace, politics, academia, and family life; the state of American Feminism today; the Women’s March: its promises and pitfalls; how women change power and how power changes women; ideas for effective activism; raising children without sex stereotypes; and, highlights from Letty’s experiences as a co-founder of Ms. Magazine and as editorial consultant to Marlo Thomas’ “ Free to Be: You and Me”, and so much more!!!
The evening program is in support of the Brandeis University Library Campaign called Honoring Our History, which will

LETTY COTTIN POGREBIN is a writer, activist, and national lecturer with a special interest in women’s issues, Black-Jewish relations, dialogue between Jews and Palestinians, and American Jews’ relationship to Israel. A founding editor of Ms. magazine, and a columnist for 30 years for Moment magazine, Letty’s work has also been published in The New York Times, The Nation, Time, Huffington Post, The Forward and numerous Jewish publications. She was a co-founder of the National Women’s Political Caucus, the Ms. Foundation for Women, and the International Center for Peace in the Middle East, and has served on the boards of the Brandeis Women’s and Gender Studies Program, the Harvard Divinity School Women in Religion Program, and Ms. Foundation for Education and Communication. Winner of an Emmy Award for her work as Editorial Consultant on Marlo Thomas’ “Free to Be, You and Me,” Letty also been honored for her social justice activities by dozens of organizations and institutions. She and her husband of 57 years, Bert Pogrebin, a labor and
employment lawyer, have three children –Abigail, a free-lance writer, Robin, a culture reporter for The New York Times, and David, General Manager of Tommy Bahama restaurant and retail shop in Jupiter, Florida
