AMERICAN COMMITTEE LAUNCHES 75TH ANNIVERSARY CAMPAIGN
The Transforming Tomorrow Campaign aims to raise $225 million in support of cutting-edge scientific research
NEW YORK, NY—November 29, 2017—At its Leadership Retreat and Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science announced the launch of the public phase of its 75th anniversary campaign, Transforming Tomorrow: Accelerate the Next 75 Years of Scientific Breakthroughs. The campaign aims to raise $225 million in support of the Weizmann Institute, one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary research institutions located in Rehovot, Israel.
Underway through 2019, the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign celebrates the American Committee’s historic anniversary, reaffirms the essential bond between science and philanthropy, and deepens the organization’s pledge to continually strengthen its partnership with the Weizmann Institute.
As a comprehensive fundraising initiative, the Campaign will provide substantial, enduring funding to address three priorities: “The People,” “The Science,” and “The Essentials of Research.” Giving opportunities to support “The People” include professorial chairs for veteran scientists; scholarships and fellowships for graduate students; science education programming for schoolchildren; and more. “The Science” includes the centers and institutes at the heart of Weizmann’s multidisciplinary work, as well as research funds in an area that matches donors’ interests. “The Essentials of Research” are the instruments, equipment, buildings and facilities that enable Weizmann scientists to carry out their innovative investigations.
For nearly 75 years, the American Committee has played a crucial role in the Institute’s progress, supporting its phenomenal growth from a small research facility into an internationally renowned powerhouse of basic science research.
“We marked our 70th anniversary by reflecting on the history of our organization and the enormous challenges it faced early on, against the backdrop of World War II,” said Marshall S. Levin, CEO of the American Committee. “Our 75th anniversary not only gives us reason to reflect, but even more importantly it gives us cause to celebrate our achievements and our recommitment to the Weizmann Institute’s inspiring mission of science for the benefit of humanity. Through the Transforming Tomorrow Campaign, we partner with Weizmann scientists, providing them the resources they need to accelerate breakthroughs in the next 75 years…and beyond.”
Harvey Knell, Vice Chair for Financial Resource Development, will serve as Campaign Chair. “I look forward to working with our lay and professional leadership to meet our ambitious goal—and to exceed it,” he said. “Transforming Tomorrow is an opportunity for the entire American Committee family to come together to secure the Weizmann Institute’s future.”
As part of the launch event, the American Committee unveiled a suite of fundraising tools to be used throughout the campaign, including print publications, a website, and a new campaign video.
