FROM LONDON TO THE GULF COAST THE ACADEMY OF ST MARTIN IN THE FIELDS BRING THEIR CLASSIC LEGACY UNDER THE DIRECTION OF JOSHUA BELL

Sarasota, FLFebruary 26, 2014…Renowned for its polished and refined sound, rooted in outstanding musicianship, The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields will perform with their Musical Director, virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell, at the Van Wezel on March 14, 2014.

The orchestra, founded by Sir Neville Marriner (who remains Life President of the Academy), gave its first concert performance in 1959 at Trafalga Square’s St Martin-in-the-Fields Church. Not only did this performance give the orchestra its name, but it also played a key role in the revival of baroque performances in England.

The orchestra is not reliant upon any one venue, but travels the world playing in a huge variety of locations. Their commitment to international touring- with some one-hundred concerts each year- denotes that their unique interpretation of classical music is loved from New York to Nuremberg.

With over five hundred recordings to date, the Academy is one of the most recorded chamber orchestras in the world. Their music has starred on many film soundtracks including, Amadeus which went Gold thirteen times, and The English Patient, which won an Academy Award for best music.

The American Grammy award-winning esteemed violinist, Joshua Bell was appointed as Musical Director of the Orchestra in 2011. He is the first person to hold this position since the original founder, Sir Neville Marriner.

Experience for yourself the brilliant acclaimed sound of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields!
