ABC News Radio Vice President Steve Jones sent the following note to the radio division today announcing that WBT in Charlotte, North Carolina is joining ABC News Radio as its newest affiliate:

ABC News Radio Welcomes WBT in Charlotte, N.C. as its Newest Affiliate

We’re thrilled to welcome our newest affiliate, WBT, in Charlotte, NC.   WBT is a legendary news/talk station with a long and proud broadcast history.  Their 50-thousand-watt AM signal reaches a large area of listeners who rely on WBT for their news and information.  Effective this week, those listeners, along with those of WBT-FM, will benefit from ABC News Radio’s national and international reporting plus entertainment, medical, technology, business, and sports coverage.

In speaking with WBT’s program director, Jason Furst, he voiced his enthusiasm for receiving access to our correspondents through our two-ways, along with our exceptional crisis coverage and expansive newscall content.

There are now more companies offering radio news for sale than I can recall.   Some of these newer, low-cost competitors claim to be full-service networks.  But when radio operators look deeper, they are finding that quality content on the scale ABC News produces – and with a high-credibility brand – is difficult to match.

Bringing Greater Media’s WBT back in to the ABC News family comes after last month’s affiliation of Clear Channel’s Denver powerhouse, KOA.   The addition of these legendary radio stations is the result of the terrific journalism we create and the outstanding affiliate service we provide 24/7.

Well done, team!

Steve
