THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release August 7, 2014
TEXT OF A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
TO THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
August 7, 2014
Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)
Section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C.
1622(d)) provides for the automatic termination of a national
emergency unless, within the 90-day period prior to the
anniversary date of its declaration, the President publishes in
the Federal Register and transmits to the Congress a notice
stating that the emergency is to continue in effect beyond the
anniversary date. In accordance with this provision, I have
sent to the Federal Register for publication the enclosed
notice, stating that the national emergency in light of the
expiration of the Export Administration Act of 1979, is to
continue in effect for 1 year beyond August 17, 2014.
Sincerely,
BARACK OBAMA

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
For Immediate Release August 7, 2014
NOTICE
– – – – – – –
CONTINUATION OF THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY WITH RESPECT
TO EXPORT CONTROL REGULATIONS
On August 17, 2001, consistent with the authority provided
to the President under the International Emergency Economic
Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.), the President issued
Executive Order 13222. In that order, he declared a national
emergency with respect to the unusual and extraordinary threat
to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the
United States in light of the expiration of the Export
Administration Act of 1979 (50 U.S.C. App. 2401 et seq.).
Because the Export Administration Act has not been renewed by
the Congress, the national emergency declared on August 17,
2001, must continue in effect beyond August 17, 2014.
Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National
Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year
the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13222.
This notice shall be published in the Federal Register and
transmitted to the Congress.
BARACK OBAMA
THE WHITE HOUSE,
August 7, 2014.
