RIOULT Dance NY, a leading American modern dance company with a classic sensibility, will perform on August 3, 2014 at 8:30pm as part of the 48th Annual Huntington Summer Arts Festival at Chapin Rainbow Stage, Heckscher Park in Huntington, NY. Tickets are free.
The evening will include:
Views of the Fleeting World was inspired by the ancient woodblock prints of the Japanese master Hiroshige and the ingenious structure of Bach’s musical score. The ephemeral quality of all living things and the eternal cycle of life are the themes that Mr. Rioult found common, and explored in this contemporary dance work. Each of the nine short vignettes – “Orchard,” “Gathering Storm,” “Wild Horses,” “Dusk, Rain,” “Night Ride,” “Summer Wind,” “Moonlight,” and “Flowing River” – captures a moment in time and nature through the colors, lines and rhythm of the dance. These moments reflect the depth of emotion that can be found in such seemingly spare and simple elements.
On Distant Shores evokes the ancient myth of Helen of Troy. “I always thought Helen got a bad rap,” says Pascal Rioult. In this work he sets out to redeem her, imagining she is brought to Troy against her will, where she encounters four god-like warriors though ultimately walks alone as it all fades into a dream.
Bolero is a bold and unique interpretation of Ravel’s famous musical score. Its perpetual motion and ever-changing patterns build to an inevitable climax, creating a riveting tour de force.
The performance is supported, in part, by New York State Dance Force.
