Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (March 10, 2023) — During today’s Shaw Festival Annual General Meeting, Board Chair Ian Joseph announced the appointments of Mary Mizen and Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the contributions, energy and support of retiring board member Vivien Dzau. During her 26-year career with IBM Canada, Mary Mizen worked in various roles including administration, education, training and marketing. She has experience in retail marketing, advertising, direct response marketing, brand development, fundraising and partner marketing. A resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake since 2008, Ms. Mizen has volunteered with numerous local organizations and been an active member of the Shaw Guild since 2014. She joined the Shaw Guild Executive Committee in 2019 and will serve as its president in 2023-2024. Ms. Mizen will sit on both the Shaw Festival’s Board of Directors and Board of Governors as an ex-officio member. A lifelong resident of Niagara, Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa has a strong connection and valuable understanding of Niagara-on-the-Lake. A town councillor from 2008 to 2014, he later took those aspirations to the regional level and has represented Niagara-on-the-Lake residents as the regional councillor for the past four years. He has served as chair on several committees including Niagara-on-the-Lake Community and Development Services Committee, Niagara-on-the-Lake Urban Design Committee, Region of Niagara Budget Committee of the Whole. As a committee member, Lord Mayor Zalepa sat on the Region of Niagara Housing Committee, Niagara-on-the-Lake Municipal Heritage, Niagara-on-the-Lake Committee of Adjustment Member, Region of Niagara Public Works, Region of Niagara Planning and Economic Development, Region of Niagara Development Charges Policy Review Task Force, Region of Niagara Procurement Advisory and Region of Niagara Linking Niagara Transit Committee. With over 30 years of business and volunteer experience, he has owned a local real estate brokerage, managed a large corporate firm in Toronto and now works for a national real estate company as Vice President of Brand Expansion. Approved in December by the Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council, Lord Mayor Zalepa will serve on the Board of Governors as an ex-officio member.
