PRINCETON UNIVERSITY ORCHESTRA IN CONCERT & PRESENTING THE ORCHESTRA ACCADEMIA TEATRO ALLA SCALA, CONDUCTED BY IVAN FISCHER
The Princeton University Orchestra (“PUO”) has much in store for October. The celebrated collegiate orchestra will open their season on Saturday, October 20 at 7:30PM and Sunday, October 21 at 3:00PM in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall, in a program conducted by Ruth Ochs and featuring concerto competition winner Henry Peters ‘20 on marimba. On Tuesday October 23, 2018 at 7:30PM the orchestra presents the Orchestra of the Accademia Teatro Alla Scala on their United States tour in Richardson, conducted by internationally renowned conductor Iván Fischer (founder and music director of the Budapest Festival Orchestra; music director of Berlin’s Konzerthaus and the Konzerthaus Orchestra).
Season Opening Concerts:
PUO’s season opening program, conducted by Ruth Ochs, pays tribute to Leonard Bernstein’s centennial with a performance of the Fancy Free Ballet Suite, written for the instantly popular ballet (choreographed for American Ballet Theatre by Jerome Robbins) about three sailors on shore-leave in New York City. The ballet served as inspiration for the duo’s next endeavor, the smash hit Broadway musical, On The Town. The program also includes Hector Berlioz’s beloved programmatic work Symphonie Fantastique, as well as contemporary French composer Emanuel Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba and Strings, featuring 2018 Princeton University
Orchestra Concerto Competition winner Henry Peters ‘20, a junior in the Computer Science department. Speaking about the work, Peters shares:
“I’m thrilled to be able to play a concerto with the full orchestra. Many people have never heard a marimba concerto before, and I’m excited to be able to show this great piece to so many people.”
Tickets are only $15 General/$5 Students, available at music.princeton.edu or by phone (609-258-9220) or in person at Princeton University Ticketing.
