CareerSource Suncoast Announces Enrollment for 2018 Career Academy Pre-College and Career Experience
CareerSource Suncoast is excited to announce that applications are now available for students interested in participating in the 2018 Career Academy. In partnership with the Cross College Alliance, Career Academy will focus on four high-demand industries including technology, hospitality, healthcare and business.
Career Source Suncoast’s 2018 Career Academy is now accepting applications for this summer’s cohort of students. Incoming juniors (11th) and seniors (12th) are eligible to apply to one of four industry-focused cohorts including healthcare, hospitality, technology and business. The 3-week experience provides students with post-secondary preparation including sessions in conflict management, leadership development, personal branding, financial literacy and more. All students will participate in Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits for Highly Effective People and SIMSOC, a simulated society for leaders. Students will be on campus receiving instruction from area professors in their individually-focused field of interest and have a chance to earn industry certifications to better prepare them for the workforce. During their industry week, students will be hosted at one of our area higher education institutions including New College of Florida, State College of Florida, Ringling College of Art + Design or University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee. Lastly, students will be paired with businesses in our community for a week-long internship where they will receive hands-on experiences and mentorship in their desired fields.
“We’re excited about the changes we’ve made this year to provide students with a true pre-college and career experience. We not only have to prepare students to understand the industries they’re interested in but provide them with the soft skills employers continuously ask for. This year’s academy will certainly leave a life-long impression on students in our community,” says Chris Laney, Director of Education & Community Investment for CareerSource Suncoast
Students who are interested in applying, visit www.careeracademysuncoast.org. Interviews and the selection announcement will be done before the end of the current school year. For more information or if you have questions, contact Chris Laney at [email protected].
