(Sarasota, FL) —FST continues the 2017-18 Winter Mainstage Season with the unique and gripping storytelling of Heisenberg, by Simon Stephens. Heisenberg runs from December 13, 2017 through March 4, 2018 in the Keating Theatre. Subscriptions for all four Winter Mainstage shows can be purchased for as little as $59 by phone at (941) 366-9000 or by visiting us online at www.floridastudiotheatre.org.

From the playwright who brought you The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Simon Stephens presents Heisenberg. Amidst the bustle of a crowded London train station, Georgie spots Alex, a much older man, and she plants a kiss on his neck. This electric encounter thrusts these two strangers into a fascinating and life-changing game. Heisenberg brings to theatrical life the uncertain and often comical sparring match that is human connection.

Since its first appearance on Broadway in 2015, critics have weighed in on the play. The New York Times calls it “Soaring, suspenseful, and thrilling.” New York Magazine agrees calling it, “Liberating” and “Spectacularly vivid.” Entertainment Weekly describes it as a “Wisely bare-bones,” and an “Unforgettable” production.

Cast in this production are returning company members, George Tynan Crowley and Rachel Moulton. Audiences will remember Crowley from his role as Sigmund Freud in Freud’s Last Session as well as last season’s production of Outside Mullingar. “Although I’ve often played characters here at FST who were out of step with their communities, I’ve hardly ever played someone so reserved, to himself, and, to all outer appearances, normal. Hiding in plain sight,” says Crowley of his character, Alex.

According to Moulton, “This is a thrilling and incredible challenge for me to explore as it is the first time I’ve ever done a two person play. It is such an intimate, specific, and unique form of storytelling. The way we listen to one another and navigate the depths of our relationship to one another definitely demands a great deal of us as artists but it also affords an infinite amount of spontaneous possibility. I am also quite hopeful that the audience’s experience will feel unique and exhilarating. For them to witness and experience this form of storytelling; A tennis match between two gorgeous but vastly different characters.” Audiences have previously seen Moulton in the FST productions of Jericho, The God of Isaac, and last season’s Stage III hit, Grounded.

Director of Grounded, Outside Mullingar, and now Heisenberg, Kate Alexander states, “The idea that at any moment the extraordinary awaits us, is what compels me to this play. Far from being fixed and certain, the world calls us to the fathomless mysteries that lie within each moment, each strange and wondrous interaction between us.”

Crowley concludes, “The thing I most love about this play is that it posits that none of us are finite things, and that we can and should take risks to follow the flame of desire. No matter how old or how much of a stick-in-the-mud we may have told ourselves we are, this play demonstrates, subtly and without providing any formula for it, that we can invent new stories for ourselves, out of thin air. Heisenberg implies that nothing and no one is fixed in space or time. And that we can indeed have our hearts’ desires. What a message!”
