EXO invites you to
a Nutcracker Dance Party!
(New York, November 2, 2017)—Have you always wanted to jump up on stage and dance with the Sugarplum Fairies, or to stand next to the soaring strings in the pas de deux? Now is your chance! The Experiential Orchestra (EXO) is building on its famous Rite of Spring Dance Party, inviting you to a Nutcracker Dance Party!
Both the standard (Thursday, November 30 at 8pm) and the family-friendly (Saturday, Demceber 2 at 2:30pm) version of the concert offer an opportunity to get up close with the orchestra and dance to your heart’s desire. The Thursday, November 30th concert offers a ticket package where you can sit INSIDE the orchestra – pick a section of the orchestra and experience the music from the source. Seasonal cocktails will be offered and there are seated options.
“It makes perfect sense,” Music Director James Blachly says, “to invite our audience to participate fully in this music, rather than to sit off to the side as passive observers.”
“These days we crave more and more full-body experiences, opportunities to get swept up in a magical world of sound and dance. If you grew up dancing, or if you’ve always wanted to combine the feeling of letting it go on the dance floor with your favorite Holiday tradition, this is your chance!”
Blachly says “we usually experience the Nutcracker as a beautiful, distant vision. EXO invites you to participate fully in the music, dancing to the Trepak and Sugarplum Fairies and more, letting yourself get swept up in Tchaikovsky’s most famous ballet. No ballet experience necessary, and if you would rather not dance, we do have seats reserved for you inside the orchestra, where the sound will surround you and embrace you in true EXO style.”
Holiday themed-attire and ballet costumes are welcome!

About EXO
The Experiential Orchestra was founded in 2009 by conductor James Blachly as a way to invite audiences more deeply into the sound and powerful experience of the symphony orchestra. EXO’s signature event is their singular Rite of Spring Dance Party, which invites the audience to dance to Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, and which has been called “the future of classical music.” Founder James Blachly says “my sense is that in this age of technology and speed, we crave full-body experiences that sweep us up and where we are invited to hold nothing back. There is no bigger experience in sound than a live symphony orchestra, and I want to open up that experience for new audiences and have them fall in love with the music on their own terms and through their own joy and wonder and awe.” The orchestra is drawn from top-level New York freelancers, with members of Decoda, Musicians from Marlboro, Canadian Brass and other elite ensembles in principal positions.
