Curtis Launches an Arts-Based Service Corps
In collaboration with the Aspen Institute’s Franklin Project, Curtis is creating the ArtistYear Fellowship Program, an arts-based service corps that brings arts access and education to underserved communities. Meet three young alumni who are the inaugural ArtistYear Fellows—Michelle Cann (Piano ’13), Wade Coufal (Bassoon ’14), and Alexandra von der Embse (Oboe ’12)—and learn more.
Curtis On Tour Kickoff Performance July 15
Join us on July 15 at 6 p.m. for a free midsummer recital! Just before embarking on its New England tour, Curtis On Tour offers a program pairing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Astor Piazzolla’s Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, showcasing young Curtis virtuosos and acclaimed violinist Elissa Lee Koljonen (’94). It’s the perfect way to enjoy a summer evening.
Annual Fund Meets Goal
A very hearty “thank you” to all Curtis supporters who helped us exceed our fundraising goal of $3.83 million to the Annual Fund for the last fiscal year, which ended on May 31. Your generosity, to the tune of nearly $4 million, ensures that Curtis students will continue to benefit from a tuition-free education of the highest caliber.
Curtis in the Air
If you’re traveling on US Airways this month, be sure to page through the in-flight magazine. A profile of Curtis appears in the June 2014 issue at the front of a section devoted to the arts in Philadelphia. Even if your feet are on the ground all summer, you can still read the article online.
Light for Learning
Behind the scenes at Curtis, the Rock Resource Center is a crucial center of activity and study. The library is home to the scores students play and sing, the books they use for classes, and the Curtis Archives. It’s housed in a beautiful historic building that received a complete renovation last year. See the results in the most recent issue of Overtones.
New on Curtis Performs
Just posted on Curtis Performs: Listen to a beautiful and virtuosic flute sonata by American composer Lowell Liebermann, featuring recent graduate Patrick Williams (Flute ’14).
