EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (June 24, 2014) – Families in the tri-state area should mark their calendars for the second annual FREE NBC 4 New York and New York Giants Health & Fitness Expo presented by Quest Diagnostics taking place on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at MetLife Stadium. The Expo, which attracted over 30,000 attendees in its first year, is one of the largest, open-to-the-public health events and is sure to be a great day for everyone to engage in health and fitness activities.

The NBC 4 New York and Giants Health & Fitness Expo will offer an extensive lineup of events located throughout MetLife Stadium. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk on the field, tour the Giants locker rooms and meet their favorite Giants players and NBC 4 New York reporters. They can also try their hand at a variety of sports activities including tennis, rowing, soccer, golf, martial arts and scuba diving.

Tennis lovers will be able to participate in lessons with instruction from the United States Tennis Association (USTA) professionals. The USTA will provide information about their local programs and services as well as applications for children ten years of age and under to receive free 1-year junior USTA memberships.

Representatives from the Passaic River Rowing Association of Lyndhurst, N.J. will be on hand at the Expo to distribute information about their mission to bring rowing to the youth community. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try an “erg”, a stationary rowing machine used by rowers to train out of the water.

Visitors can test their soccer ball handling skills with the New York Red Bulls who will be running scrimmages as well as “Skills Challenges” throughout the Expo. Stop by their table at 2 p.m. on Sunday to meet your favorite players, get their autographs, and find out more information about the New York Red Bulls Summer Camp Programs.

The New Jersey Golf Foundation Family Fun Zone sponsored by the Hospital for Special Surgery will also be on the field at the Expo. They will be providing visitors with free instruction for all skills levels and all ages from PGA professionals.

On both Saturday and Sunday, visitors confident in their long-drive golf swing can enter the $10,000 Hole-In-One Contest on the left concourse. Every contestant will receive three swings to come as close to the pin as possible. Each day will end in a shoot-out between the top ten closest contestants for the $10,000 prize.

For those who want to engage in a more intensive physical challenge, a variety of fitness activities and classes taught by local instructors will be offered throughout the weekend including martial arts, the Zumba Zone sponsored by Avon, yoga and more.

The “Be A Diver” Scuba Tour sponsored by Visit Florida will also be on the field providing visitors the chance to try scuba diving for free in their 20 x 30 foot, 15,000 gallon mobile pool.  All divers must be ten years of age or older and bring their own swimsuit. Dressing rooms, towels, the latest diving equipment, wetsuits and fins will be provided.

The kid-friendly Expo will have a range of events for children too, featuring Marvel Universe LIVE! and five character-related zones.  Kids can throw Thor’s “Mjolnir” hammer at bad guys, try Hulk “hands” to smash through a brick wall, aim Hawkeye’s bow and arrow at targets, practice punches and kicks like Black Widow and fling Captain America’s shield.

A NASCAR simulator will be another great activity featured at the Expo this year. Visitors can sit in an official, full-size NASCAR vehicle and feel what it’s like to race against the clock in a 600 horsepower car just like the professionals.

For younger children, the “Touch-A-Truck” activity is sure to be popular. Kids can explore safety vehicles hands-on, featuring trucks from the Bergen County Bomb Squad, Sheriff’s Unit, HAZMAT Support, Fire Department, Public Works and Emergency Management unit as well as the NBC 4 news truck.

Visitors will also have the chance to enjoy several healthy cooking demonstrations. Both adults and kids can learn tips regarding how to prepare a more nutritious diet and indulge in a tasting following each demonstration.
