GIORDANO DANCE CHICAGO CLOSES OUT AUDITORIUM THEATRE’S 2016-17 SEASON WITH ITS THIRD “MADE IN CHICAGO” DANCE SERIES PERFORMANCE
Mixed Rep Program Features the Company’s 160th World Premiere, Choreographed by Company Veteran Joshua Blake Carter; Carter Retires from Company Following June 10 Performance
Giordano Dance Chicago (GDC) returns to the Auditorium Theatre for its third appearance in the theatre’s “Made in Chicago” Dance Series on Saturday, June 10, at 7:30PM. This mixed repertory program closes out the Auditorium Theatre’s 2016-17 Season, as well as Giordano Dance Chicago’s 54th season.
“I can’t think of a better way to wrap up an amazing season at the Auditorium Theatre than by featuring one of the city’s most acclaimed dance companies,” says Tania Castroverde Moskalenko, Auditorium Theatre CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome Giordano Dance Chicago back to our historic stage to present a program that will redefine and expand the definition of American jazz dance.”
“It is a true honor for Giordano Dance Chicago to appear once again on the beautiful Auditorium stage,” says Giordano Dance Chicago Artistic Director Nan Giordano. “We’ll be presenting a fantastic program that captures our trademark energy, passion, and joy. How excited my father, Gus Giordano, would be to see his company perform in the theatre he loved so dearly.”
The two-act program, consisting of six pieces, commemorates two events for Giordano dancers: Joshua Blake Carter’s (pictured above) last performance as a main company member, and Maeghan McHale’s (pictured left) 10th anniversary with GDC.
Carter has danced with GDC for 7 years, and currently serves as the director of Giordano’s second company, Giordano II. In addition to dancing with GDC, he is also a choreographer – his world premiere piece Before My Eyes will be performed by members of Giordano II for this Auditorium Theatre performance. Carter will join GDC’s administrative staff following his final performance as a main company member.
“Choreographer-to-the-stars” Liz Imperio (who has worked with Gloria Estefan, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez, among others) showcases McHale with Lost in This World, set to music by Ed Sheeran and Lou Rhodes.
The program also features Grusin Suite by Frank Chaves (former Artistic Director for River North Dance Chicago), Israeli choreographer Roni Koresh’s EXit4, Jon Lehrer’s A Ritual Dynamic, and Autumn Eckman’s commonthread (with live accompaniment by composer and violinist Dan Myers).
