PIONEER IN ORGANIC SHEETING SETS OUT TO CHANGE HOW AMERICA CONSUMES WITH FIRST CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN HOME TEXTILES

Coyuchi For Life Subscription Service To Provide Customers A Guilt-Free Way To Get New Sheets And Towels While Keeping Old Ones Out Of Landfills

San Francisco—April 18, 2017—With more than an estimated 10 million tons of textile waste ending up in America’s landfills each year, San Francisco-based Coyuchi, pioneers in coastal-inspired organic cotton linens, today announces ‘Coyuchi for Life’, a first-ofits-kind subscription/lease business model that provides customers with new, fresh GOTS-certified organic sheets, towels and duvets regularly, while taking back their old ones and keeping them out of landfills.

This new twist on the subscription service model helps build a more sustainable supply chain by looping products back into the secondary markets or materials stream. The returned linens will be renewed or upcycled for other purposes. If not salvageable, the materials will be organized by material type, and sent to recyclers who will turn it into a new yarn.

“We all love the luxury of fresh, new sheets and towels, but we also care deeply about the world we live in,“ said Coyuchi CEO and President, Eileen Mockus. “With our new subscription model, we can now achieve a circular economy, which has been the missing link in bringing more sustainability to the subscription economy and to home textiles for consumers.”

According to Credit Suisse, subscription-based goods and services models in the U.S. totaled $420-billion in 2015. Noting this trend in consumer purchasing patterns for everyday goods and services, particularly among millenials, Coyuchi Board Chairman, Kevin Surace added that, “Coyuchi for Life is a great example of where innovation, a marketplace demand for transparency and a big shift towards an ‘I don’t want to own’ economy, are converging. Coyuchi for Life program is about today’s more conscious consumption, moving away from the old model of conspicuous consumption.”

How the Coyuchi for Life program works:

Customers visit Coyuchi.com and:

• Select their organic sheets, towels and duvets, which come in several colors and sizes.

• Choose how often they want new ones sent; every 6, 12 or 24 months.

• At the selected renewal date, customers receive their new linens, and

• Use a Coyuchi return label to ship back their old linens to Coyuchi for renewal or recycling.

Monthly subscription costs can be as low as $5 per month for towel sets and $7 per month for queen-size sheet sets with a 24-month subscription. At time of replenishment, customers have the opportunity to change their linens’ colors and sizes and to upgrade or add to their subscriptions.

Coyuchi products, including those available through the Coyuchi for Life program, are produced using natural and organic fibers, free of the toxic dyes, bleaches and finishes used in conventional textiles. All Coyuchi cotton is 100% certified organic. Coyuchi is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), the world’s leading textile processing standard for organic fibers and in 2014 began working with Fair Trade USA, Fair Trade Certified™, a product certification program that promotes equitable trade practices, working with farms and factories around the world to improve wages, benefits and conditions for workers.
