Sarasota Concert Association’s free concert series swings into spring with the big band sounds of this popular ensemble.

(Sarasota, Florida) Sarasota Concert Association’s free Music Matinee Series concludes its 2016-17 season with the swinging, big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors. The program, entitled “Something Old, Something New,” includes such classic tunes as “In the Mood,” “Stompin’ at the Savoy,” “The Queen Bee,” and many more. The concert is Wednesday, April 19, noon, in David Cohen Hall at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. For more information about the Music Matinee Series, visit www.scasarasota.org.

The Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors was started in 1985 as a spin-off from the Suncoast Concert Band when founder Leo Laier, who at that time was also music director of the Concert Band, discovered that numerous members of the band were also jazz enthusiasts. With the addition of a pianist, bassist, guitarist and vocalist, the Jazz Ambassadors were off and running and now perform regularly at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Sarasota and throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties. Directed by Eric Guth, the ensemble includes celebrated area jazz artists. Many of these musicians have performed with such jazz greats as the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, the Preservation Hall Dixieland Band, Woody Herman, Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Sammy Davis, Jr,

“We’re delighted to close out another successful Music Matinees season with the upbeat sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors,” says series coordinator Sylvia Eckes. “These emissaries of jazz are a wonderful example of how the genre thrives in Sarasota.”

All Music Matinees performances are at noon. All concerts are free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations accepted. For more information about the Music Matinee Series, email [email protected] or visit www.scasarasota.org.
