STONE PERFORMS AT NYC’S SUMMERSTAGE TOMORROW, JUNE 17
LOS ANGELES, CA — Soul singer Allen Stone will kick off a North American headline tour on September 23 at the House of Blues in San Diego, CA. Fans who attend his fall concerts will get a preview of material from Allen’s new album – and have the opportunity to take a few tracks home with them via a special CD that will only be available on the tour. The RADIUS Preview will feature three of Stone’s new songs plus a pre-order digital download code that can be redeemed for the forthcoming album on release date.
The run will include shows at the historic Mayan Theatre in Los Angeles, CA (September 25) and the Vic Theatre in Chicago, IL (October 16). See below for itinerary. While he will not play
Seattle on this tour, his hometown has definitely not been overlooked. Allen is planning a special series of events that will take place there around the release of his new album.
Tickets for the tour – and a limited number of VIP packages – will go on sale Friday, June 20, at www.allenstone.com. The VIP package includes a physical copy of The RADIUS Preview, a concert ticket and entry to an exclusive pre-show meet-and-greet. Tracks from Allen’s new album will be playing at the event and he will field questions from fans during a Q&A period, which will be moderated by a prominent figure from the local music scene.
Stone has been recording his new album – which will be his first for Capitol Records – with his co-producer, Swedish musician Magnus Tingsek. Sessions have taken place in Malmö, Sweden and Chewelah, WA. You can view Stone performing a stripped down version of the new song “Million” in this video, which was shot in his rustic cabin studio in Chewelah.
“To me, the greatest energy that you can cultivate is a collaborative energy. It feels better when you’ve got somebody to bounce ideas off of,” explains Stone. “Magnus is like Prince – he plays everything! He’s like one of those Swiss Army knife musicians. He hears music completely different than I do, so he totally challenges me to broaden my ear.”
There’s a strong connection between Stone’s songwriting and his performances. “My number one joy is playing live, so when I write records I really just think of what song I could write that would be really fun to play live,” he explains. “Basically my job is to throw a party for people every night when we’re on tour.”
Stone released his first two albums – 2010’s Last to Speak and his self-titled 2011 album – on his own stickystones label. The latter shot into the Top 10 of Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and entered the Top 5 of iTunes’ R&B/Soul charts. USA Today hailed Stone as a “pitch-perfect powerhouse,” Billboard named him as an artist to watch and he also received praise from outlets such as The New York Times, CNN and Esquire – all before signing with a label.
