MUNA KICKS OFF LYRIC VIDEO PROJECT
(Los Angeles, CA)—Today, MUNA kicks off their lyric video project in honor of their newly released debut album About U. Every Tuesday and Thursday, a new lyric video for each song on the album will be posted on the band’s VEVO channel. The first lyric video for “So Special” premiered exclusively on The FADER today.

MUNA says about the project, “The idea behind this project was to not only elevate the album beyond the level of an auditory experience but also to depict through visual vignettes the ways in which our album could manifest itself into people’s real, everyday lives. This project, whilst technically a compilation of lyric videos, hopes more largely to portray the vulnerabilities and complexities of the album in visual portraits of simple and diverse human experiences. This first video, for So Special, serves as an introduction to the characters and narratives that unfold throughout the larger project.
Whether it’s blowing off steam after a hard shift or getting in the zone to create something, we want people to use this album. We want people to make this album about them. We were fortunate enough to collaborate with many close friends of ours both behind the scenes and in front of the camera to bring this idea to life.”
Currently, the band is on their first-ever North American headlining tour in support of About U. The tour kicked off last Wednesday with a sold out show at LA’s Teragram Ballroom. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE. See full list of tour dates below.

Members of MUNA, Katie Gavin (lead vocals/production), Naomi McPherson (production/guitar/synths/vocals), and Josette Maskin (lead guitar/vocals), have written and self-produced all of their own music to date. In November, the band also made their television debut performing “Loudspeaker” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (Click HERE). Additionally, MUNA has been featured on Noisey, Ladygunn, Nylon, V Magazine, in Flood Magazine, and more. They performed at last year’s Lollapalooza, and have previously toured with BØRNS, Miike Snow, Of Monsters and Men, St. Lucia, and Grouplove. Actor Bios
Tatiana Ettensberger
Tatiana Ettensberger is a film producer from Los Angeles, currently in school at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is best known for her role in MUNA’s album video, About U. She, the producer, majorly fucked up in not getting an actor in time and was forced to play the role of “girl in car” for the project.
Pierre Davis (she seems to have sent a bio about her clothing line rather than herself … will this work?)
Italian for “no sex/gender”, NO SESSO is the LA based fashion house headed by Pierre Davis. The brand aims to create a world of fashion and art inclusive of people of color and gender nonconformists. Working with a wide range of prints, fabrics and reconstructed materials, each garment acts as a peaceful protest against issues surrounding lgbtq and ethnic identities . For NO SESSO’s spring/summer 2017 “Working Girls” collection, pinstripes are combined with denim and mesh to create a couturier’s interpretation of attire that pays homage to working women of all professions. As a result, a contemporary approach to everyday uniform ranging from aprons and utility pants to suit blazers is presented to the audience. Various pieces throughout each collection are accented with the brand’s signature hand embroidery details, thus bringing a sense of balance between feminine and masculine silhouettes. A highlighted piece from NO SESSSO’s Working Girls is a denim hardware jacket with an embroidered display of eclectic characters you’d see working at a hair salon.
Britta Grant
A true midwestern at heart, Britta Grant grew up in Michigan before veering to Baltimore, Maryland where she pursued dance with an experimental collective. She was given the opportunity to perform for a local artist, Bosley, sparking the desire to entertain for a living. Since moving to Los Angeles, Britta has continued to thrive and is grateful for each opportunity and all to come. Signed with The Movement Talent Agency her credits include Ariana Grande, Lee Jeans, David Guetta, Nickelodeon, Facebook, Digicel, and ‘Cherry Boom Boom Live’ to name a few.
Candace Rosales
My name is Candace and I skate with the Los Angeles Derby Dolls. I was born and raised in L.A., so I am so proud to be a part of such an extraordinary organization. Being true to myself has always been important to me, even through certain times in my life where I felt as if I couldn’t just be me. Through all of those tough moments, I knew I couldn’t give into what was expected of me by society or even my peers. As someone who went by the beat of my own drum, I knew early on I had to surround myself with those people who were unique, different, and genuine. Growing up with immigrant family members has taught me to admire strong women who speak their minds, and who aren’t afraid to fight for what they believe in. Getting started with roller derby was just that-finding individuals who were all unique, different, genuine and who weren’t afraid to be themselves. In addition to being able such a welcoming community, derby has really helped me tackle everyday frustrations. It clears my mind, a therapy in a way. Skating around the track and challenging myself to be the best skater I can be. It has been such a welcoming and humbling experience, and I am so happy that I can just be me with a group of people who accept me for just that. This wonderful group of people are always so welcoming, encouraging, and accepting. Much love to my dolls <3
Parissah Lin
Parissah Lin is a recent graduate of the Gallatin School of Individualized study with a concentration in “Power, Gaze, and Identity.” She focuses on visual and performance arts as a space through which diasporic, indigenous, and post-colonial identities can resist, refuse, or subvert the violence produced by colonialism and imperialism. Using the language of critical race and performance theory, post/anti-colonial and indigenous studies, and social and cultural analysis, she attempts to disrupt the frame by which power and identity are produced through narrative practice. Her artistic praxis uses video art, archival and collected footage, public mourning, and performance. She is a founding member of the Yellow Jackets Collective a queer intersectional and interdisciplinary collective of East Asians collaborating towards radical futures that centralize marginalized bodies.
Aiko Masubuchi
Aiko is a film programmer and musician, born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She lives in Brooklyn, New York and her band is called Toyzanne.
Kristen Laffey
Kristen Laffey is a producer and a leftie. She currently works at Fullscreen TV and for YouTuber Lilly Singh in writing, producing, shooting, and editing capacities. She also independently produces queer and female driven short form content in lieu of sleep. @tildacanyouhearme www.kristenlaffey.com
Jorge Vallecillos (note: I don’t have a bio photo for him, but if you want one I can get a still from the video)
On September 17th, 1991, Jorge Vallecillos was born in Los Angeles, CA. He was raised by his single mother in the dense urban neighborhood of Mid-City. Spending his time between Guatemala and the US Jorge developed a love for cultural symbols, in music and design, that ultimately dictated his design ethos. Having worked on various creative endeavors with a long list of collaborators including MOCA, Mercedes Benz, Sonos and numerous others, Jorge is driven by connecting people through collaborative art, music and technology experiences. To eat, Jorge works in strategic design for marketing with a focus on design and culture related clients.
Evita Castine
Evita M. Castine is a Los Angeles based actor and director. She loves performing physical comedy and is preparing for her first clown show at the Clown School. You might have seen her in films such as Henry IV and Bart and Cleo. She volunteers working with Second Call, a community based organization working with high risk offenders and recent parolees to adjust to mainstream life.
Luka Fisher (note: I’m not sure how much she’s still included in the video––so she may not really qualify as ‘lead talent’)
Luka Fisher is a Los Angeles based genderqueer artist known for their multimedia works and frequent collaborations with other artists. Their solo and collaborative works often explore questions of gender, queer identities, trauma, community, and healing. Their work has been featured in The Creators Project, Nat Brut, Headmaster, Reflekt, DNA, Dryland and elsewhere.

Isaac Schneider
Isaac is a recent graduate of Wesleyan University who lives at home with his parents. Before Wesleyan he attended USC but he wasn’t so into it (sorry, dad). During his time at USC, Isaac became obsessed with the imagery of Americana & credits frat-row, flip flops and the cool rush of coors light for inspiring his creative work. Wyatt Winborne
Wyatt was born in Los Angeles, California and grew up in editing rooms. Wyatt’s father, an editor himself, introduced Wyatt to film and the industry at a very young age, bringing him into work with him most days. As a child, Wyatt spent what he describes as “probably an unhealthy amount of time” in editing rooms, on mixing stages, and anywhere else the post production process took his father. Since burgeoning into adulthood, Wyatt has worked on several music videos, short films, and feature films, in a variety of roles ranging from Assistant Camera, to Editor/Director. He kinda sucks as a person, but who cares in this industry right?
Simona Kessler
Simona is a film producer & photographer and graduate of USC School of Cinematic Arts. She presently resides in Los Angeles – but as a young child, was an adamant believer that before coming to earth, she “lived in the paint.” This integration of art & life, in its myriad and bizarre manifestations, has remained essential to Simona’s endeavors. Of note, Simona’s recent works have screened at festivals including Santa Barbara Film Fest, Fantasia Fest, LA Music Video Festival, and––most notably––SXSW, at which four film & video works have premiered since 2015. Tatiana Ettensberger
Tatiana Ettensberger was born and raised in Los Angeles before venturing to Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. She is an American Studies and Psychology double major, but because of Wesleyan’s booming film program at Wes, she has found herself working on film projects anytime she is not in class. Her film interests are driven by identity and representation and specifically by how to work both into the entertainment industry. With a year and half of school left, she is eager to graduate and begin her career in film, but hopes to learn as much as she can to ensure her goal of a more inclusive and socially conscious industry comes to fruition.
