Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON (February 3, 2017) — At the Annual General Meeting earlier today, Andrew M. Pringle fulfilled his duties as the Shaw Festival’s Chair of the Board of Governors. During his remarks, Mr. Pringle passed the torch to Chair Designate Peter Jewett and announced new Board members Ian Joseph, Kevin Patterson and Julian Rance.
“As I complete my tenure as Board Chair after serving with The Shaw for almost a decade, I must really thank again our Board for all of the remarkable work and support they have shown over the years – dedication shared by all of our staff and patrons,” said Andrew M. Pringle, chair of the Board. “I am also enormously happy to welcome our chair designate, Peter Jewett into the role of Chair. He’ll be a terrific leader for this organization and has already shown himself a dedicated ambassador and governor. Thank you to Peter for everything he has done and will do to ensure the ongoing success of The Shaw. It is an organization worth believing in.”
“Andy has made a terrific contribution as Shaw’s Board Chair. His unwavering support, enthusiasm and forward thinking has steered us through the transition to a new executive team, welcoming both Tim Jennings and Tim Carroll to the Festival during his tenure, and he has been instrumental in guiding us through some financial bumps. I feel that he has left us in a great position to ensure the long term financial stability of the Festival,” says Peter Jewett, newly appointed Chair of the Board. “I am honoured to accept the position of Chair and will continue to build the Shaw Festival’s impact both locally and internationally. We have a dynamic and skilled executive team in place. I am very excited about what will happen at Shaw in the coming years.”
Peter Jewett, who has been a Board member since 2011 and Chair Designate since 2015, becomes Board Chair as the Shaw Festival enters a new era under the leadership of Executive Director Tim Jennings and Artistic Director Tim Carroll. Mr. Jewett will lead the Board through strategic planning sessions this spring that will set the course for the future of the Shaw Festival both financially and artistically.
