FST has extended and added performances to every single production that has opened during its current 43rd season. The hit Cabaret revue, Piano Men was a smash with the critics from the beginning. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune calls it “Fun and playful” while it “Packs an emotional wallop.” The Observer describes it as “Stellar work” and “Upbeat.” Total Theater says is “Sparkles.”
Clever Little Lies opened to a house of eager patrons ready to experience the next
highly-anticipated production by Joe DiPietro. Critics weighed in on opening night. The Sarasota Herald-Tribune calls it a “Comedy with heart “filled with “Unexpected twists.” Sarasota Magazine calls it a “Surefire comedy” that is filled with “Genuine emotion.” The Observer says this show “Delivers big laughs.”
Just as exciting as it is for audiences to have even more opportunity to see these shows, the actors also get the joy of continuing their roles and digging deeper into their characters. Playing the role of Jane in Clever Little Lies, Allyson Jean Malandra states, “With comedy, you never know what you’re going to get each night by way of the audience reactions. Each one of us has settled in nicely with the show. We are able to let go and just play. It becomes sort of like a jazz musician improvising. We always stick to the script, but you find the little nuances and moments that you can embellish in order to play with your fellow cast mates and with the audience. It’s a beautiful conversation of play and laughter.”
Piano Men cast member, Brian Walters shares his excitement for this extension stating,
“Our cabaret just keeps gaining steam from the energy pouring out from our crowds.
I think audiences are loving not only the music and stories, but also the approachable and refreshing way we share them onstage. My favorite moment in the show is when the crowds subtly sing along to their favorite song.”
