BUYER & CELLARNOW ON NATIONAL TOUR
AT CHICAGO’S BROADWAY PLAYHOUSE
Buyer & Cellar, New York’s longest-running comedy now starring Barrett Foa (“NCIS: Los Angeles,” Avenue Q), will play its 4ooth performance at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street) at 7:30pm, Friday, June 13. On Wednesday, June 11, at 2pm, original star and current star of the National tour of Buyer & Cellar, Michael Urie, will play his 400th performance as Alex More, a (fictional) Los Angeles actor who takes a job working in the (very real) basement shopping arcade of Barbra Streisand’s Malibu estate. Buyer & Cellar, written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Stephen Brackett, recouped its initial investment faster than any Off-Broadway show in recent history.
The critically-acclaimed hit comedy Buyer & Cellar swept the Best of 2013 Theater lists including The New York Times, Associated Press, The Hollywood Reporter, New York Post, New York Daily News, NPR, Newsday, The Huffington Post, AM New York, The New York Observer, The Advocate, The Daily Beast, Entertainment Weekly, NBC New York, Playbill, Towleroad, Gay City News and Time Out New York. Buyer & Cellar won the 2014 Lucille Lortel Award and 2013 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Solo Production.
Buyer & Cellar had its world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, where it received rave reviews and played a sold-out, extended run before transferring to the Barrow Street Theatre where it opened June 24, 2013.
The first national tour of Buyer & Cellar starring Michael Urie (“Ugly Betty”) launched at Chicago’s Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place Tuesday, May 6, 2014 to rave reviews. Chris Jones from The Chicago Tribune calls Buyer & Cellar, “Laugh-out-loud fun! A smart and hilarious comedy,” with Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times adding the show is, “Too good to pass up! A wickedly funny fantasia on Barbra Streisand.” Buyer & Cellar will continue its Chicago engagement through Sunday, June 15, 2014, followed by an engagement at Washington D.C.’s Harman Center for the Arts from Friday, June 20, 2014 through Sunday, June 29, 2014. Urie will then take Buyer & Cellar to Los Angeles’ Mark Taper Forum for six weeks from Wednesday, July 9, 2014 through Sunday, August 17, 2014, followed by engagements at the SHN Curran Theatre in San Francisco from August 19, 2014 through August 31, 2014, and The Dallas City Performance Hall in Texas from September 3, 2014 through September 6, 2014.

EVERYONE LOVES BUYER & CELLAR!
“A great show! Deconstructs Streisand’s fantasy world in a brilliant exegesis of her films and career. Of course this has more to do with fame, fantasy, entertainment, and persona than it does with the actual Streisand, and that’s what elevates it above a witty take on the idea of the public persona.”
–James Franco

“A triumph! I tell you to GO. The most talked about new comedy of the season. It goes down as easily and tastily as lemon sorbet, and the only pain in your stomach it creates is the kind that comes from laughing too hard. “Perfect summer fare! Nutritious, too. As profound as a [seemingly] light entertainment can be!”
