Petition follows revelation that Coachella owner Phil Anschutz actively supports anti-LGBTQ and anti-climate groups
A Care2 petition is urging Coachella headliners Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and Radiohead to donate their proceeds from the event to pro-LGBTQ organizations following the revelation of owner Phil Anschutz’s financial contributions to anti-LGBTQ and climate change-denying groups. The petition has gained over 3,000 signatures.

Anschutz, who is the founder of Coachella’s parent company, has contributed at least $190,000 from his holdings in the company to anti-LGBTQ organizations like the Family Research Council, the Alliance Defending Freedom, and the National Christian Foundation.
Anschutz is also the owner of an oil and gas company and once sued an entire town for its anti-fracking policies.
Beyonce will be the first black woman to headline the festival and the first woman to headline Coachella in a decade. Radiohead and Kendrick Lamar are also scheduled to headline. The Care2 petition is calling for the headliners to donate their proceeds to The Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, and the Human Rights Campaign.
“As a transgender woman and advocate for the LGBTQ community, my genuine hope is that these artists can turn a bad situation into a positive one,” says Care2 LGBTQ Issues Advocate Sarah Rose, who has also signed the petition herself. “I’m a diehard music fan and a musician myself, and I strongly believe that music shouldn’t be used as a means to discriminate.”
