ALL FOR ALEPPO: COMEDY BENEFIT IN SILVER SPRING

Silver Spring, MD – January 2017 – Improbable Comedy will present “All for Aleppo,” a stand-up comedy show January 26, benefiting Handicap International’s work in Syria, and with Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.

The 90-minute show is a partnership between Levone of Improbable Comedy and Rahmein Mostafavi of Cool Cow Comedy.  Virginia based comic Rahmein Mostafavi spearheaded the idea on Facebook in December, posting “If anyone wants to host an Aleppo fundraiser comedy show, I’ll headline it for free… I’m aching to do as much as possible to help over there.”

Four other “All for Aleppo” shows are scheduled in January and February, in aid of other organizations working with Syrians impacted by the crisis.

“Doing a comedy show has the benefit of raising money and awareness plus making people laugh,” said Improbable Comedy producer Kim Levone. “People are eager for a way to help, even though it feels out of their control to make things better for people so far away.”

The Silver Spring show’s line up includes Mostafavi, Baltimore native Jason Weems, Shahryar Rivzi, and Franqi French. Mostafavi hosts regular shows in Virginia and has been on FOX, Sirius XM and the Laugh Your Asheville Off comedy festival. Jason Weems has performed at the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Canada, on Fox Laughs and was twice on the hit NBC Series Last Comic Standing. He also has a hit online sketch project, the Lunchtime Show. Shahryar is a DC area comic and IT professional for the federal government who has been performing clean comedy for the last ten years. He performs at the DC Improv, and was part of the Great American Comedy Festival. Franqi French has performed at Caroline’s on Broadway and the “Roland Martin Show” as well as The World Famous Comedy Store on Sunset Strip.

About Handicap International

Handicap International is a 35-year-old NGO working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster to ensure that no one is left on the sidelines of relief. Since 2012, Handicap International has helped more than 500,000 individuals and their families caught up in the Syrian crisis. Today, more than 400 Handicap International professionals are assisting Syrians inside the country, as well as refugees in Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. The organization provides urgently needed emergency rehabilitation care to people with disabilities and injuries, distributes walking aids and wheelchairs, offers psychosocial counseling, and supports hospitals and rehab centers in the care of wounded civilians. Additionally, risk education teams work to prevent future injuries and deaths by visiting displaced people in camps and urban areas and teaching them to spot, avoid, and report explosive remnants of war.   http://www.handicap-international.us/  For more information, contact Sara Goldberg: (301) 891-2138.
