Golden Roads
The Journey of Golda Meir
A new one-woman musical
Book & Lyrics by Sharon Ohrenstein
Music by David Ohrenstein
Directed by Carlo Thomas
Sharon Ohrenstein performs multiple characters to bring to life the journey of Golda Meir – Israel’s 4th Prime Minister. From Pinsk – to Milwaukee – to Tel Aviv, Golda’s dreams, loves, and struggles are heard in songs. Having a dream is easy, living it –
is the challenge. Following every move is her spirit guide, Zion. The musical highlights Golda’s early years as she carves out her own “golden” roads – a nickname used for Golda’s 1949 Public Works project when she served as Labor Minister. Nobody Can Tell Me, I Do, We Have Returned, Words Won’t Do, The Kitchen Cabinet, and Golden Roads are a few of the songs.

For those of you who have followed this musical’s progress, let me share with you why Golden Roads is new!!!!. It is 80% rewritten.
1. Six of the twelve songs have not been heard since the 2000 script.
2. Every song has been rethought and most reworked with a new structure, melodic line, or accompaniment.
3. The script is completely redone.
4. Four characters appear: Golda, Zion, Morris and Blume,
5. The exact length is still to be determined but it should stay within 60 to 70 minutes.
6. The story focuses on her formative years (age 16 – 50).
7. We are thrilled to have Carlo Thomas directing.
